Set in a semi-rural location in Hook, Hampshire, Priory Hospital Mildmay Oaks supports the NHS by providing low secure services and level 2 rehabilitation services for both male and female patients. This includes a specialist learning disability and autism spectrum support. We also offer adult and child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), and single-person, bespoke therapeutic placements (BTPs) across our hospital.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be part of a dedicated and compassionate team, all working together to ensure the smooth running of the hospital and to support the wellbeing of our patients. While your role doesn’t involve providing direct care, your contribution is vital in helping to maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for everyone. Whether you’re assisting with day-to-day operations, keeping things organised, or ensuring our spaces are well looked after, your support plays an important part in creating a positive experience for those who live and work here.

  • To manage the efficient administration of the Mental Health Act (MHA) within the area of responsibility and prioritise workload to meet constantly changing demands.
  • To ensure compliance with the MHA 1983, amendments to the act and the revised MHA Code of Practice.
  • To support and advise staff, service users and relatives on the MHA 1983 and associated procedures.
  • To be an active member of the Healthcare MHA administrators group, MHA training sub group and MHA audit sub group.
  • Create and maintain individual legal files for service users subject to the Act, safeguarding confidential information and statutory documentation.
  • Maintain accurate data in relation to the use of the Act in order to provide statistical information for national and local reporting processes.

What you’ll bring to the role

Our work is rewarding but can be challenging, so resilience is key. No two days are the same! Your natural empathy will help you support others through both the highs and lows. The role requires a good standard of general education, with GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English, and competence in the use of relevant software and IT systems. The post holder must be able to challenge and direct staff in the appropriate application of the Mental Health Act, with the ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply relevant legislation and current case law. Strong organisational skills are essential, including the ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should have experience in an administrative role, with healthcare or legal experience desirable, alongside excellent administrative skills and a genuine interest in mental health and mental health legislation, supporting the organisation’s commitment to making a real and lasting difference for everyone it supports.
