Priory Hospital Nelson House has an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our team. Priory Hospital Nelson House, Gosport, Hampshire is a rehabilitation service offering level 1 and level 2 care for males with mental health conditions and complex needs, including behaviours that challenge and substance misuse issues. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes along Rowner Road and Portsmouth Harbour railway station approximately 3–4 miles from the service.
What you'll be doing:
- Assists qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of all patients.
- Provides practical support and responsive care to patients who require assistance with intimate personal needs such as dressing, bathing and toileting activities, ensuring that such activities comply with procedures and relevant healthcare legislation.
- Observes and monitors the wellbeing of patients, ensuring that any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff or the primary nurse and documented as appropriate.
- Provides specific interventions with patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse, including observation and engagement with patients, escorting patients on leave, and being involved in de‑escalation and management of violence and aggression, following training and competency attainment.
- Contributes to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Educated to a minimum NVQ 1 or GCSEs in Mathematics and English.
- Understands the need for strict confidentiality.
- Basic IT literacy.
- Well‑developed observational and listening skills essential for monitoring the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of patients, and frequent interaction with staff, patients and visitors on the ward.
