Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adults

Priory Hospital Dewsbury is looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adults (or General Adult Psychiatrist with experience in managing Older Adults). Flexible hours up to 37.5 hours per week. Competitive Salary and package. Service rated ‘Good’ CQC. Based in the residential area of Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, Priory Hospital Dewsbury provides 32 beds, divided into two 16‑bed wards for males with mental health disorders: Hartley Ward is a level 2 Rehabilitation and Recovery Ward (Higher Support Needs). Jubilee Ward is an Older Adult service. Each service has a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist who performs the duties of Responsible Clinician. The available post is for Jubilee Ward (10 bedded Specialist Dementia Service and 6 bedded Functional Disorders). An excellent opportunity for somebody looking to join an established team caring for individuals with Dementia.

Jubilee Ward is a 16‑bedded male unit which provides a therapeutic environment for men with dementia (10 beds) and Functional Disorders (6 beds). Most patients are under MHA. The Consultant will work closely with other experienced members of the MDT. The post would be suitable for an Older Adult Consultant Psychiatrist or a General Adult Psychiatrist, with experience of older adults.

What you’ll be doing

• You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients' wellbeing.
• Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews and the development of a therapeutic milieu.
• Fulfilling the role of Responsible Clinician to patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
• Supervising the process of referral and admission including contributing to preadmission assessments of young people with other team members.
• Offering a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team in relation to the assessment, formulation and treatment of adults.

What you’ll bring to the role

• You must hold a CCT (or equivalent) in Older Adult Psychiatry, or hold a CCT (or equivalent) in General Adult Psychiatry and have extensive older adult experience.
• Meet regulatory requirements, such as GMC registration and revalidation.
