Priory Hospital North London is looking to recruit a Chef to join the team. Located in London, in a peaceful and secluded part of Southgate, Priory Hospital North London is set within a striking Grade I listed building, overlooking beautiful parklands. It’s one of the UK’s leading centres for the treatment of a range of mental health difficulties, including addictions, depression, anxiety, stress and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). We also offer private autism assessments for adults. Since North London first opened its doors in 1986, we have worked tirelessly to establish our excellent reputation as a specialist provider of mental health care.
What you’ll be doing:
- You’ll be part of a dedicated and compassionate team, all working together to ensure the smooth running of the hospital and to support the wellbeing of our patients.
- Undertakes the planning, preparation and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests or dietary requirements within the unit.
- Ensuring operational standards comply with the company’s Food Safety policies and guidelines and statutory regulations.
- Takes full shift responsibility for the catering operation (in the absence of the Head Chef).
- Ensures the cost-effective and efficient control of stock including placing orders for food products and the checking/reconciliation of deliveries.
- Monitors and adapts food production ensuring that there is a minimum amount of wasted food.
What you’ll bring to the role:

- The ideal candidate will be numerate, literate, and qualified to NVQ2 or equivalent, with a basic qualification in food hygiene.
- Ability to organise and prioritise their own workload within established procedures while demonstrating excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to monitor costs and liaise effectively with suppliers, alongside strong organisation and time management.
- Knowledge of specialised diets, such as those for dysphagia or allergens, may also be required.
- First-class customer service skills are a must, supported by experience within a professional kitchen environment and a proven track record of producing meals for large groups on time and within budget.
