Overview

Prior\’s Court is looking to engage a Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our Therapy team. We are seeking an experienced and qualified Senior SaLT who has previously managed a caseload and demonstrated experience working with autistic young people or people with complex needs/challenging behaviours.

We are very proud to be graded \’Outstanding\’ in all five areas of inspection by Ofsted. Comments relating to the onsite therapy teams highlighted the highly adept therapeutic input and pastoral care, and a calm, focused learning environment across classrooms.

Please note: A full UK driving licence is required due to our location.

Key information

Salary: £46,000 to £53,000 per annum pro-rata, dependent on qualifications and experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks a year. Part-time from 14 hours considered.

The role of Senior Speech and Language Therapist

  • Lead development and implementation of Speech and Language Therapy practices at Prior’s Court.
  • Manage a caseload of autistic young people with complex needs, including assessment, implementation and review of therapy input to ensure progress.
  • Line manage the team of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Contribute and/or lead in planning and delivering training to develop the knowledge and skills of others in autism and communication.
  • Deliver input through the Prior’s Court Communication Skills Learning Programme to prepare all young people to have a functional communication system for healthy, happy, independent lives after leaving Prior’s Court.
  • Provide specialist intervention using evidence-based therapy approaches tailored to individual needs in areas such as expression, understanding, social communication and AAC (low and high tech).
  • Contribute to annual reviews with high quality written reports, assessments, EHCP target reviews and attendance at annual review meetings as appropriate.
  • Support the Head of Therapy to collect evidence of SaLT impact on young person outcomes (assessment data, case studies, staff/parent feedback).
  • Liaise with external NHS and/or independent therapists to share information and ensure consistent therapy plans across organisations.
  • Participate in regular reviews of the SaLT provision and support planning and implementation of improvement projects.
  • Participate in ordering, budget management and maintenance of SaLT equipment and resources.

Qualifications

  • Professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy with HCPC registration.
  • Experience working and managing a caseload as a qualified SALT.
  • Use of clinical reasoning skills for assessment and intervention planning.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching others.
  • Ability to use assessment findings to develop therapy programmes.
  • Knowledge and experience of using a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches for autistic young people with complex needs.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience managing a small team.
  • Attended training in autism-specific approaches (e.g., TEACCH, intensive interaction, attention autism).
  • Specific training in a sub-speciality of SaLT.
  • Experience delivering training.
  • Experience in an education and/or residential care setting.
