About the Role
Priority Recruitment is working in partnership with Community Rehabilitation Management Ltd (CRM) to recruit a dedicated and experienced Support Worker to support a 62-year-old male within his own home in Norwich. This is a 2:1 care package, providing round-the-clock, person-centred support to an individual with a spinal injury and complex physical needs. You will be part of a consistent and professional team delivering high-quality care in a calm, structured home environment.
About the Client
The client is a 62-year-old male with limited mobility following a spinal injury. He lives at home with his wife and requires 24/7 support on a 2:1 basis. Key aspects of his support include:
- Wheelchair dependency
- Overhead hoist transfers and specialist equipment
- Support with personal care, mobility, and daily routines
- Structured bowel and bladder care
- Support with meal preparation and eating (no dietary restrictions)
- Occasional use of nebulisers (PRN medication)
He is verbally independent but experiences memory loss, occasional night-time disorientation, muscle spasms, and is at risk of autonomic dysreflexia and epileptic seizures. Full care plans are in place and training will be provided to ensure safe and confident practice.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Providing high-quality personal care with dignity and respect
- Supporting all moving and handling tasks (2:1 at all times)
- Using specialist equipment safely (overhead hoist, wheelchair, slide sheets, commode)
- Supporting bowel and bladder routines in line with care plans
- Assisting with meal preparation and supporting eating at the client's pace
- Supporting night-time repositioning and pressure care
- Monitoring for signs of autonomic dysreflexia and seizures
- Maintaining a safe and calm environment
- Accurately completing care records and MAR charts
- Working closely with the wider care team and following all safeguarding procedures
Requirements & Experience
Essential:
- Experience supporting individuals with complex physical needs
- Very clear and confident spoken English
- Non-smoker
- Confident with manual handling and wheelchair support
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Comfortable working both day and waking night shifts
Desirable:
- Experience supporting individuals with spinal injuries
- Familiarity with bowel and bladder care
- Experience working within 2:1 care packages
Training Required:
- Manual Handling
- First Aid / Basic Life Support (Applicants must already hold relevant training)
