Your experience could make a real difference when support is needed most.

- £70 for each allocated weekend 12-hour standby period.
- £20 per hour for care shifts worked, paid in addition to your standby allowance.
- Eligible mileage paid at 55p per mile.
- Additional paid travel time for eligible journeys exceeding one hour, covering the time beyond the first hour.
- Paid induction, training and shadow shifts with each client before you provide emergency cover.
- Flexible standby opportunities, with no minimum number of periods required.
- Company and Role
You’ll join a pool of experienced Support Workers providing emergency cover across four care packages in Rotherham, Easingwold, Bridgnorth and Prenton.
This is a hands-on care role. When called upon during an agreed standby period, you must be ready to travel to a client’s home and provide suitable emergency shift cover.
Responsibilities
- Following individual care plans and supporting each person’s choices, dignity and independence.
- Assisting with personal care, daily living and activities.
- Providing moving and handling support and medication assistance in line with your training and assessed competencies.
- Supporting people who may display behaviours that challenge, using their individual support strategies.
- Maintaining accurate care records and communicating clearly with management and the wider care team.
- Clocking in and out for every care shift using our electronic care system.
- How Paid Standby Works
Day standby: 8am–8pm.
Night standby: 8pm–8am.
Standby allowances are paid for periods agreed and allocated to you.
You can offer availability for days, nights or both. There is no minimum commitment, but you must only accept periods you can reliably fulfil.
During allocated standby, you must answer or acknowledge emergency calls within 10 minutes and be ready to depart for a suitable emergency shift within 15 minutes of receiving the call.
You must be willing and able to travel to all four care locations.
Your home location and realistic journey times will be discussed during recruitment to ensure emergency cover is practical.
If called during day standby, you must be available to work until midnight. If called during night standby, you must be available to work until midday.
Actual care shifts may include waking nights, when you must remain awake throughout the shift.
You do not need to stay awake throughout home standby, but you must remain contactable, fit for duty and sufficiently rested to respond safely.
All emergency deployments are subject to appropriate rest and safe working requirements.
- Successful Applicant
- Previous hands-on experience supporting people with acquired or traumatic brain injuries is essential.
- Experience with personal care, moving and handling, medication and behaviours that challenge.
- A full driving licence and your own reliable vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to provide emergency cover at all four locations.
- Ability to acknowledge calls within 10 minutes and depart within 15 minutes of receiving the call.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to adapt to different care environments.
- A calm, compassionate approach and a strong commitment to reliable care.
- Willingness to complete induction, mandatory training, client-specific training, shadow shifts and competency assessments before deployment.
Once you accept a standby period, we need to be able to rely on you to remain available and attend suitable emergency shifts when reasonably required.
You must avoid conflicting work or personal commitments and remain free from alcohol or other substances that could impair your ability to work safely.
If illness or another issue affects your availability, you must tell management immediately, or as soon as reasonably practicable, rather than waiting to be contacted.
We recognise genuine illness, emergencies and legitimate safety concerns.
Male applicants only: Due to the personal care duties involved and the need to protect our clients’ privacy and dignity, being male is an occupational requirement for this role under Schedule 9, paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
If you’re an experienced brain injury Support Worker who can bring confidence, compassion and reliability to emergency care, we’d love to hear from you.
