We are looking for an experienced translational R&D leader with a background in cell therapy to shape the scientific strategy across our research programme and guide the platform from discovery towards therapeutic development. This is a senior scientific leadership role with broad responsibility for translating emerging biology into a development programme. You will define the evidence required to advance the platform, establish clear development priorities and decision points, and ensure that experimental programmes are designed with downstream clinical, regulatory and commercial requirements in mind.

We are seeking someone with substantial experience advancing novel therapeutic programmes through preclinical development. You will bring expertise across areas including assay and translational strategy, biodistribution and PK/PD, safety and toxicology, and regulatory development, together with the judgement to identify critical programme risks and make timely, evidence-based go/no-go decisions. You will have significant influence over the scientific direction of the company and will play a central role in ensuring that the evidence we generate is robust, decision-relevant and capable of withstanding scrutiny from regulators, investors and potential development partners. You will shape and lead the scientific team, and have ownership over key processes and lab workflows.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead R&D strategy across the research programme, and hold the integrated development plan
  • Set preclinical development strategy across therapeutic development, PK/PD, biodistribution, safety and toxicology
  • Provide scientific leadership and mentorship across the bench and computational teams
  • Represent the science to investors, partners, advisors and the board
  • Build the translational function as the company grows

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Bring over 8 years of experience in translational research, in industry or at the academic and industry interface
  • Have personally led at least one concept-to-IND, or IND-enabling, programme
  • Are experienced in preclinical development strategy and the studies that support it
  • Have a demonstrated track record of go/no-go and portfolio decision-making
  • Bring direct regulatory experience of IND or CTA submissions
  • Lead cross-functional R&D across scientific disciplines and external partners

Strong candidates may also have experience with:

  • Cell and gene therapy development
  • CNS or neurology programmes taken through preclinical development
  • Early-stage, start-up or founding environments
  • Fundraising, and presenting science to boards and investors
  • Holding a previous VP, SVP or CSO title

Salary and other benefits:

Highly competitive salary and pension contribution, alongside a wellness and lifestyle package that includes support towards gym membership and living close to the lab. All employees participate in the company share option scheme.
