About the PRI

The PRI is the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment. It works to understand the investment implications of Responsible Investment (RI) related factors and to support its international network of investor signatories in incorporating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions. The PRI’s three distinct capabilities relate to the core elements of the PRI’s approach to achieving a sustainable financial system:

  • Translate RI thought leadership into insights and practical support that is tailored to what signatories need to progress their RI practice.
  • Convene our vast network to create opportunities for collaborative action.
  • Harness our global scale to influence policymakers and regulators to effect system change.

Job Description

The Director of Responsible Investment Ecosystems (RIE) for Europe will lead PRI’s work across its most mature and strategically important market, spanning the UK, Ireland, and Continental Europe. Reporting to the Chief Responsible Investment Ecosystems Officer, the Director will manage a team of 18, including Market and Country Heads, Policy Specialists, Senior Responsible Investment Ecosystems Managers, and Responsible Investment Ecosystems Managers. A key part of the role is providing strong leadership and direction to a geographically dispersed team, ensuring clarity of purpose, high performance, and alignment with PRI’s overarching strategy.

The Director will also play a visible external role in building PRI’s profile across the region, deepening relationships with signatories and stakeholders, and representing PRI in public forums, industry events, and policy discussions. As part of the RI Ecosystems Leadership team, the Director will collaborate closely with the other RI Ecosystems Directors to contribute to the strategic direction of the RI Ecosystems team and the ‘ways of working’ across the whole organisation. This role is hybrid, with an expectation to work from the PRI’s London office in line with PRI’s hybrid working policy (currently a minimum of two days per week). Staff are welcome to work from the office more frequently if they wish.

Core Responsibilities

  • Overall accountability and oversight for ensuring the European team meets agreed goals related to signatory growth, retention, and progression, as well as market- and regional-level performance targets; act as a point of escalation for team performance and delivery quality issues.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the European team, supporting their development and managing performance to enable both individual and team success.
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance on PRI’s policy engagement in Europe, working closely with the Policy Head to shape, align, and deliver PRI’s advocacy and regulatory priorities across the region.
  • Line manage Country/Market Heads and Policy Head, ensuring effective leadership, alignment, and support across the region.
  • Provide regular reporting on European ecosystem activities to the Chief Responsible Investment Ecosystems Officer, Executive Team, and Board, as required.
  • Lead, co-lead, or contribute to strategic discussions and operational initiatives that improve signatory engagement and experience within and across regions.
  • Actively contribute to the RI Ecosystems Leadership Team, collaborating with other senior leadership colleagues to deliver a strong global signatory value proposition that is consistent in quality and tailored to local contexts.
  • Ensure the development and delivery of key engagement channels for European signatories, including in-person, virtual, and hybrid convenings hosted by PRI or in partnership with stakeholders and market actors.
  • Lead the region’s business planning, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to deliver strategic and operational commitments.

Person Specification

  • Significant and substantive subject matter expertise in sustainable finance and responsible investment (e.g. RI integration, sustainability disclosure and data, reporting standards, corporate governance, etc.).
  • Experience in the asset management and/or financial sector, preferably within the Asset Owner or Investment Management community.
  • Strong understanding of the European policy and regulatory landscape relevant to sustainable finance, with experience engaging on policy issues and translating regulatory developments into practical implications for investors.
  • A deep understanding of country-specific and regional dynamics across Europe, including the regulatory, political, and market factors influencing responsible investment, and how key actors, including current and prospective PRI signatories, interact within the broader financial ecosystem.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage high-performing, geographically distributed teams, fostering alignment with strategic goals and a culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • Strong commitment to inclusive leadership, with a consultative approach and a focus on creating a respectful, supportive environment where individuals and teams can thrive.
  • Dedication to developing others, with a growth mindset and a proactive approach to continuous professional and personal learning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly, confidently, and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build and sustain senior-level partnerships across the investment and policy landscape.
  • Confident and effective public speaker, capable of representing PRI with credibility and influence in high-profile forums and external engagements.
  • Full professional proficiency in English is required; additional European language skills are highly desirable.
  • Strong IT and digital skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and digital collaboration tools.
  • As this is a regional role in a global organisation, regular travel within Europe and occasional international travel will be required, consistent with business needs.
  • A university degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. finance, economics, sustainability, public policy), and/or a recognised investment or finance qualification (e.g. CFA, CAIA, IMC) is desirable but not essential.

We particularly welcome candidates from under-represented groups, including Black, Asian, and other People of Colour, those with visible or non-visible disabilities, LGBTQ+ candidates, and those who are neurodivergent.

The PRI is committed to offering flexibility to our employees, both formal (e.g., part-time work) and informal (e.g., a shift in hours to accommodate caring responsibilities). Please talk to us about how we could make this role flexible for you.

N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date in the event of an overwhelming response or a change in business priorities.
