Principal People are recruiting for an HSE Manager to join a leading organisation delivering major renewable energy projects across the UK and Ireland. This is a slightly different opportunity to a traditional site-based HSE role. You will join a project start-up team, taking projects from the early planning stages through mobilisation and site establishment, before handing over to the longer-term HSE team. It’s a role combining project HSE, site mobilisation, contractor management and continuous improvement, with the opportunity to influence how future projects are set up and delivered.

The role involves getting involved at the early stages of projects, supporting HSE planning, contractor set-up and mobilisation before moving onto site during the initial delivery phase. The role works on a 4-week rotation, with three weeks supporting projects across the UK and Ireland followed by a full week off. Sundays are non-working days during the project rotation.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of HSE requirements from contract award through to site establishment.
  • Developing project-specific HSE, environmental and traffic management plans.
  • Reviewing contractor RAMS and other project documentation.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, Principal Contractors and subcontractors.
  • Working with subcontractors to improve standards and create greater consistency across future projects.
  • Supporting the physical set-up of sites, including welfare, compounds and wider HSE arrangements.
  • Supporting sites for approximately 6–8 weeks through mobilisation before handing over and moving onto the next project.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve existing HSE processes and ways of working.

What are we looking for?

You do not need previous renewable energy experience. We are interested in people from construction, infrastructure, utilities, rail, energy, substations or other project-led environments where you have worked closely with contractors and operational teams.

You will ideally have:

  • A recognised Health & Safety qualification.
  • Practical HSE experience within a construction or project environment.
  • Experience managing relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • A practical, relationship-led approach to Health & Safety.
  • Flexibility to travel extensively across the UK and Ireland.
  • A full UK driving licence and be comfortable working at height.

What’s on offer?

Salary up to £60,000. Company 4x4 / project vehicle. Opportunity to join a globally recognised and leading renewable energy organisation. All accommodation provided when working away and work-related travel costs covered. 33 days annual leave including bank holidays. This could suit someone who enjoys the practical side of HSE but wants more involvement in how projects are planned, mobilised and improved, rather than remaining responsible for one site for its full lifecycle.
