Principal Education is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) across specialist schools in South London.
These settings support pupils with complex physical, medical, and learning needs, requiring high levels of care, structure, and consistency. Many pupils are wheelchair users and require manual handling support as part of their daily routine.
The Role
You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with severe and complex needs, working closely with teachers, therapists, and care staff. Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting pupils with PMLD and complex physical needs
- Wheelchair handling and mobility support
- Assisting with personal care where required
- Supporting communication using sensory-based and alternative communication methods
- Helping pupils access learning, therapy sessions, and daily routines
- Maintaining a safe, calm, and nurturing environment
These are full-time, long-term roles (Monday–Friday) to ensure continuity and stability for pupils.
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs
- Wheelchair handling / manual handling experience
- A patient, calm, and compassionate approach
- Understanding of safeguarding and SEN best practice
- Right to work in the UK
- A recent Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Based in South London or able to commute
Pay & Benefits
- £120 –£140 per day, depending on experience
