A South London school is seeking a committed Lay Chaplain to support the spiritual, pastoral, and personal development of students within the school community. This is a people-facing role focused on student wellbeing, guidance, and the wider life of the school.
The Role
- Working closely with senior staff and pastoral teams, the Lay Chaplain will play an important role in supporting students’ character, reflection, and personal growth. Responsibilities may include:
- Providing pastoral support and guidance to students
- Supporting prayer, reflection, and collective worship
- Contributing to the school’s Catholic ethos and values
- Supporting students of all faiths and none in a respectful, inclusive manner
- Working with staff to promote wellbeing and positive school culture
- Assisting with charitable initiatives, enrichment activities, and school events
- Offering a calm, trusted presence for students needing support
This role is term-time / part-time, with working hours aligned to the school day.
Requirements
- A practising Catholic with a strong understanding of faith and pastoral care
- Experience working with young people (education, youth work, or pastoral roles desirable)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills
- A warm, calm, and approachable manner
- Ability to work sensitively with students from diverse backgrounds
- Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Pay
Competitive salary, dependent on experience and hours worked.
