Must hold an Enhanced DBS We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable and well-organised Science Technician to join our successful Science Department in a thriving secondary school in East Dulwich. The successful candidate will provide high-quality technical and practical support to teachers and students across the Science Department, helping to ensure that practical lessons are safe, well prepared and engaging. You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of Biology, Chemistry and Physics across the school. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical interest in science who enjoys working in an educational environment and wants to contribute to students' learning and development. Key Responsibilities Prepare and set up equipment, chemicals, specimens and other resources for practical science lessons. Provide technical support to teaching staff during practical lessons, as required. Ensure that laboratories, preparation rooms and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe and orderly condition. Maintain appropriate stocks of chemicals, equipment, consumables and other science resources. Monitor stock levels and order supplies in accordance with school procedures and budget requirements. Safely store, handle and dispose of chemicals and other hazardous materials in line with relevant regulations and school policies. Carry out routine checks, maintenance and basic repairs of scientific equipment. Assist with the preparation and organisation of practical examinations and assessments. Maintain accurate records relating to equipment, chemicals, risk assessments and health and safety procedures. Support the Science Department with developing and improving practical resources. Ensure that health and safety procedures are followed at all times, reporting any concerns promptly. Work collaboratively with teachers, technicians and other members of the school community. Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role. Person Specification Essential The successful candidate will have: A good understanding of practical science and laboratory procedures. Experience of working with scientific equipment and materials. A strong commitment to health and safety. Excellent organisational and time-management skills. The ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure. Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Good communication and interpersonal skills. A positive and flexible approach to supporting staff and students. A willingness to learn and develop knowledge of new equipment, techniques and procedures. Desirable Previous experience working as a Science Technician in a secondary school or similar educational setting. Relevant qualification in Science, Laboratory Science or a related subject. Experience supporting practical work across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Knowledge of CLEAPSS guidance and school laboratory health and safety procedures.
