Princess Alice Hospice is a charity supporting people in life, death and grief. We are dedicated to working closely with individuals, communities and organisations in the London Boroughs of Kingston and Richmond and large parts of Surrey, to ensure more people receive the support they need. We are small enough for you to see the difference you make every day, and big enough to offer training, development and the support you need to grow in your role.

Our Night Response Team plays a vital role in delivering urgent, specialist care in the community, supporting patients in their own homes as well as in care and residential settings, and ensuring access to vital care when it matters most. The team provides on-call palliative nursing care between 22:00 and 08:00, seven days a week, supporting patients known to the hospice. This service enables patients to remain in the comfort of their own home, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and ensuring care is delivered in the right place, at the right time.

The team also sees patients known to district nursing services who require care overnight outside the scope of palliative care. Working as part of a small team of two each night - usually one Registered Nurse and a Senior Healthcare Assistant - you will be based in an office in the Hospice In-Patient Unit. The team receives calls and provides information, support and advice to patients, families and other healthcare professionals, alongside visiting patients as required throughout the night.

You will assess, plan and deliver care to patients with palliative and end-of-life needs, providing both hands-on support during visits and clinical advice via telephone. Excellent communication and telephone triage skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently within a community setting, as is a strong understanding of more generalist community-based nursing care.

A full driving licence with a maximum of 6 points is required, as the role requires travelling to patients' homes using a hospice vehicle (automatic). The salary for this role is complemented with a premium for unsocial hours, including night and weekend working, paid monthly in arrears.

We are looking for an experienced and versatile Specialist Nurse to join our Night Response Team, bringing strong interpersonal, communication and telephone triage skills. Experience in caring for patients who are terminally ill is essential, alongside a strong understanding of community-based care and the confidence to work autonomously. A motivated and flexible approach is key, with the ability to adapt to new ways of working and support a diverse patient group. Experience in palliative care or oncology is essential.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Rebecca Allkins, Night Response Team Lead.
