The Oral and Maxillofacial services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital are incorporated within the Head & Neck Service. The post would suit a trainee returning to the specialty after core training or during second degree. This post will have general Maxillofacial activity. You will work as part of a team led by four Consultants, supported by six Specialty Doctors. You will be involved in a full range of clinical activities related to Maxillofacial Surgery. You will be part of the 1:6 on-call rota. This covers the activity from the A&E department and inpatient support. In addition to this, the appointee will be expected to cover general Maxillofacial emergencies.

Main duties of the job:

  • To provide a full range of Oral and Maxillofacial advice and treatment.
  • Admission and discharge of inpatients.
  • To ensure a high-quality standard of evidence-based clinical care is maintained.
  • To maintain accurate clinical and statistical records of all activities undertaken on behalf of the Princess Alexandra NHS Hospital Trust.
  • To maintain personal professional competency and appropriate development.
  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Required to comply with all relevant national and local statutory and mandatory requirements including Health & Safety and Infection Control.

The OMFS on call provides integral support to the local dental community as well as dealing with all aspects of facial trauma. The majority of the emergency service and treatment is provided in the A&E setting to ambulatory patients.

Out of hours responsibilities:

  • Out of hours cover for new A&E attendances.
  • Out of hours cover for ward patients (an average of 8 patients per week elective/emergency).
  • Out of hours cover for elective patients’ emergency attendances.
