Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of the Radiology department assistant (RDA) staff and for ensuring the smooth running of the department in relation to its RDA functions. The post holder will ensure that the RDA team are allocated appropriately across all imaging modalities to ensure efficiency of service at all times. They will lead on the training and education of junior RDAs and ensure appropriate induction and mentoring is provided. This role will cover both the cross‑sectional RDAs and the ultrasound divisions so competence in both these areas is needed to succeed at the role. Further to the team leader responsibilities, standard RDA duties will also be expected with rotation across the services. Competence in cannulating is required and the post holder will be required to ensure all relevant RDAs can proficiently cannulate.

Scope and range

  • To provide an effective Radiology service to PAH Trust, within departmental protocols
  • To plan and prioritise own workload
  • Create and manage the weekly RDA rosters
  • To report incidents and/or potential accidents within the department, in line with Trust policy
  • To care for patients within the Radiology department in terms of their immediate physical and emotional requirements
  • Ensure relevant RDAs have sufficient knowledge of MRI safety procedures to safely work in the department.
  • To be able to prepare examination tables in all cross‑sectional rooms which may involve manual handling techniques for heavy equipment
  • To aid the radiology management in investigating PALS and DATIXs
