Role Description
Please note: this is 4 on 4 off shift pattern - 12hr days and nights.
Job Purpose:
- Key responsibilities are safely maintaining and operating the effluent treatment plant, steam raising plant and ensuring an unfettered supply of other site utilities to the manufacturing environment, ensuring the site operates within its environmental consent limits.
- Also to include other duties regarding the maintenance of general building services and fabric, yard areas and the Energy Centre, and effluent treatment plant.
- Timely response to plant breakdowns and planned maintenance, all owned until complete.
- All work formally recorded as such and handed over to oncoming team.
- Working on shifts, rotating nights and days, reporting to the Site Services Engineering Manager, this role is part of a team which will have responsibility for proactively managing asset care to ensure that equipment performance is optimised.
- The role makes a positive contribution to planning and executing all asset care activity on shift.
- Plays a proactive role in the asset care element of the Engineering function on shift, to help the site achieve optimal operational efficiency at lowest cost through the delivery of targets against the strategic objectives of the Group Supply function.

Principal Responsibilities
Safety, Quality, Hygiene- Ensure that when carrying out all duties that regard to own safety and that of others is always taken into account.
- Strict adherence to all H&S work policies e.g. Lock out and Tag and Use of the Permit to Work/Enter system.
- Ensure purchased items conform with business, legislative, moral and European directive requirements.
- Personally demonstrate safe behaviour and take responsibility for the management of health & safety of engineering staff and contractors.
- Carry out duties ensuring the site achieves and maintains required GMP standards.
- Ensure all work conforms to statutory & safety requirements.
- Ensure that risk assessments are completed and actioned.
- Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness to reduce accidents and near misses.
- Reduce customer complaints and wastage through effective maintenance and continuous improvement.
- With Team Leader establish clear objectives and priorities to enable manufacturing to meet operational targets.
- Carry out site maintenance activities and ensure GMP standards are reached.
- Responsible for recording work carried out with regards to breakdowns, repairs and modifications.
- Taking ownership for issues to ensure follow-up is carried out and the original issues are closed off.
- Responsible for monitoring, updating and improving the planned maintenance system and ensuring work planned and progressed.
- Updating of plant parameters/set points etc. as per site procedures.
- Ensure that plant and equipment perform to manufacture product efficiently to high quality standards.
- Assist with training and support other departments in general running of the factory.
- Undertake the training of others as required.
- Identify own training needs and with manager agree a time plan for achieving this.
- Contribute to and help implement continuous improvement, to enhance quality, safety, efficiency and waste reduction.
- Communicate as required with Planning, Manufacturing and all of site to ensure activities are implemented on time, in full, within budget.
- Communicate daily with manager to ensure planned maintenance, engineering and production priorities are considered.
- Communicate as required with Engineering Stores to ensure that spares are available for planned and breakdown maintenance.
- Ensure that good quality End of Shift and Start of Shift briefings take place between shift engineers.
Role Requirements
Knowledge- Effective communication
- Engineering activities in a food manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of Steam raising boiler equipment
- Knowledge of how pneumatic systems work
- Knowledge of how electrical distribution systems work
- Knowledge of soft water systems
- Knowledge of Legionella control
- Advanced mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
- Demonstrable knowledge of relevant CI techniques
- Working with CMMS – Preferably SAP
- 5+ years hands-on experience of equipment in a food manufacturing environment preferably site services
- Ability to read & understand technical manuals and engineering drawings
- Ability to read and use both imperial and metric systems
- Good PC skills.
- Experience of high speed can handling equipment desirable
- Experience of working in a site services environment desirable
- Food Safety qualification desirable
- Ability to interface with common PLC’s would be desirable
- Health & Safety qualification desirable
- Confined space experience
- Knowledge of SCADA systems
