Role Description
Princes Long Sutton are recruiting for a HR Advisor to join their established HR team. Long Sutton is one of the UK’s most critical food manufacturing hubs. Following an £80m site investment, we are in a period of unprecedented transformation.
Job Purpose:
- Maintain full knowledge of site and group policies and procedures, terms and conditions, employment law and HR best practice.
- Provide advice and support to People Managers and employees on day to day operational issues ensuring fairness and consistency is applied at all times.
- Support the site leadership and HR teams to deliver the site and people strategies in line with Operational Business Plans and Operating Frameworks.
Dimensions:
Headcount circa 450-550 permanent staff and approx. 100 agency staff. Deputise for the HRBP and HR Advisor colleague in their absence.
Working Hours:
Monday - Friday 08:45-17:00 with x1 day a week from home.

Principal Accountabilities:
- Provide HR support to managers in relation to employee relations, ensuring a HR presence throughout the relevant stages of the procedures.
- Work closely with our centralised specialist functions such as People Services, Talent Acquisition, and Learning & Development to deliver site and group people strategies.
- Drive delivery of key metrics, such as labour, absence, turnover and retention performance indicators.
- Provide advice on complex employee relations issues in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Lead management of casework relating to sickness absence, including making recommendations, giving advice and support to managers, liaising with Occupational Health, case review meetings and capability due to ill-health.
- Support a seamless recruitment process for ungraded employees with particular focus on onboarding and immersion.
- Provide assistance with interviews as and when needed.
- Support the HRBP to ensure all employee and trade union relations is dealt with effectively and in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures; minimising and reducing risk and exposure factors to the business.
- Ensure all HR Systems are maintained and kept up to date with accurate information.
- Handle personal data and information in a professional manner ensuring compliance with data protection and confidentiality.
- Support SEDEX and Customer specific reporting and compliance appropriately and be a key contributor in site SMETA and other ethical audits.
- Coordinate and support engagement plan activity.
- Participate/own HR project work and objectives while supporting improvement activities across the site.
- Attend and contribute in daily operational meetings.
- Act as the 5S Champion for the HR area.
- At all times give due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Food Quality procedures.
Role Requirements
Knowledge:
- Minimum 3-5 years generalist HR experience, preferably at HR Officer level.
- Experience of working within an FMCG environment and working with Trade Unions.
- CIPD qualified or relevant experience.
Skills:
- Ability to build effective internal relationships with customers is critical.
- Effective communication and IT Skills.
- Experience of operating in a HR Business Partner style environment.
- Able to demonstrate tenacity and have a flexible attitude and approach.
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Ability to operate flexibly in a constantly changing environment.
