Role Description

Princes Erith is looking for a Multi‑Skilled Engineer to join the site on a permanent basis. As the UK’s largest producer of retail oils, our Erith site supplies over 100 million litres annually making it the hub of our cooking oil operations. We are looking for someone with an Electrical Bias (70%) and a Mechanical background (30%) with experience of Siemens PLC.

Shift Pattern

This is a rotating 3‑week pattern, working Monday to Friday and 1 in 3 Sundays.

  • Week 1: Monday – Thursday 06:00 – 14:15, Friday 06:00 – 13:30
  • Week 2: Monday – Thursday 14:00 – 22:14, Friday 12:30 – 20:00
  • Week 3: Sunday 22:45 – 6:15, Monday – Thursday 22:00 – 06:15

This pattern is great for work life balance and a long weekend after Week 3.

Job Role

To execute the site professional maintenance (PrM) strategy which includes planned preventative, reactive, condition based and time based maintenance to high speed production lines, process plant and all associated services & utilities that exist on the site at Erith Edible Oils Ltd. The role includes continuous improvement activities and project works as required.

Key Attributes within Role

  • Able to work a 3‑shift pattern as per terms and conditions.
  • Demonstrably competent in modern industrial electrics and electronics.
  • Proficient in fault finding PLC’s (preferably Siemens S7), HMI’s and industrial networks.
  • Able to perform mechanical maintenance tasks to a good standard.
  • Proactive, flexible, self starter with excellent communication skills and a drive toward engineering excellence.
  • Ability to prioritise workload when under pressure.
  • A good knowledge of key maintenance principles and strategies (TPM knowledge an advantage).
  • Computer literate on standard office programs and computerised maintenance management systems (SAP).

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Engineering maintenance of PET bottling production lines, process plant and all services / utilities associated to site as required to ensure production plans are met on time in full.
  • Focussed improvements of production line equipment in order to improve reliability, efficiency and cost.
  • Contribute towards major capital projects as part of the early equipment management process.
  • Complete delegated minor project works as required.
  • Carry out all duties in a safe, professional and responsible manner giving due consideration to environmental & quality procedures.
  • Attend and contribute to short interval control and other standard operational meetings as required.
  • Record all maintenance activities in SAP in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Operate within the permit to work system and lockout procedure as well as issue permits to contractors for service works and manage them safely.
  • Comply with all food safety systems such as HACCP and good manufacturing process.
  • Be proficient in the Princes Management System where it relates to engineering i.e., Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Professional Maintenance (PrM).
  • Comply with critical engineering stores management procedures and complete stock counts as required.
  • Maintain personal skill set and personal development on a continual basis within the MEOSI framework.
  • Maintain company standards at all times such as tool control, work wear and PPE.
  • Maintain and demonstrate the company competences and behavioural standards.

Role Requirements

  • Relevant City and Guilds, ONC/HNC or higher.
  • Time served apprenticeship training program completed.
  • 18th Edition and recognised automation training.
  • Experienced maintainer of FMCG equipment, food industry preferable.
