Job Purpose

The Engineer (Site Services) maintains and operates the effluent treatment and steam raising plants, ensuring site utilities and environmental compliance. The role involves responding to breakdowns, performing planned maintenance, and managing general building services. Working on rotating shifts, the engineer contributes to asset care, aiming for optimal operational efficiency and supporting the Group Asset Care Strategy by collaborating with various site teams and external contacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate effluent treatment and steam raising plants.
  • Respond to breakdowns and perform planned maintenance.
  • Manage general building services.
  • Ensure site utilities and environmental compliance.
  • Work rotating shifts supporting asset care and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct proactive maintenance, root‑cause analysis, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement while adhering to safety, quality, and hygiene standards.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety for self and others, adhere to H&S work policies, lockout/tagout, and permit system.
  • Ensure purchased items meet business, legislative, moral and European directive requirements.
  • Demonstrate safe behaviour and manage health & safety of engineering staff and contractors.
  • Ensure site achieves and maintains required GMP standards.
  • Ensure all work complies with statutory and safety requirements.
  • Complete and action risk assessments.
  • Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness to reduce accidents and near misses.
  • Reduce customer complaints and wastage through effective maintenance and continuous improvement.

Operations Management

  • Collaborate with Site Services Manager to establish clear objectives and priorities.
  • Carry out site maintenance activities and ensure GMP standards.
  • Record work carried out, manage breakdowns, repairs, modifications, and ensure follow‑up and closure.
  • Update plant parameters and set points per site procedures.
  • Ensure plant and equipment perform to manufacture product efficiently and with high quality standards.
  • Identify training needs and develop a time plan for achieving them.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to and help implement continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing quality, safety, efficiency and waste reduction.

Communication

  • Communicate as required with Planning, Manufacturing and all site stakeholders to ensure activities are implemented on time, in full, within budget.
  • Provide daily communication with manager to ensure planned maintenance, engineering and production priorities are considered.
  • Communicate with Engineering Stores to ensure spares are available for planned and breakdown maintenance.
  • Conduct quality “End of Shift” and “Start of Shift” briefings between shift engineers.

Role Requirements

Knowledge

  • Effective communication.
  • Engineering activities in a food manufacturing environment desirable.
  • Knowledge of steam‑raising boiler equipment.
  • BOAS certification desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems desirable.
  • Working knowledge of SAP desirable.

Skills

  • Engineering experience desirable.
  • Hands‑on experience of equipment in a manufacturing environment desirable.
  • Ability to read and use both imperial and metric systems.
  • Computer literate.

Additional

  • Experience working in a site services environment desirable.
  • Food Safety qualification desirable.
  • Confined space experience desirable.
