Princes Long Sutton is recruiting for an Asset Care Manager to join their Engineering Department. Reporting into the Site Engineering Manager, this position will deputise and be key in ensuring the success of the site. We are one of the UK’s most critical food manufacturing hubs, and following an £80m site investment we are in a period of unprecedented transformation. Position Overview:
Princes Long Sutton is on a journey toward world‑class reliability and planned asset care. The Asset Care Manager will lead this transformation, managing day‑to‑day operations while focusing on long‑term change. When the Site Engineering Manager presents Engineering at the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Asset Care Manager deputises, ensuring Engineering remains a strategic pillar of the company's success.
Mission:
- Lead the Transition
- Stop the Firefighting – transition from “fix‑on‑fail” to controlled, planned maintenance.
- PPM Revolution – master and optimise over 20,000 PPMs, adjust frequency and redesign where needed.
- Culture of RCA – make Root Cause Analysis a real tool for lasting elimination of failures.
Key Responsibilities:
- SLT Deputising & Strategic Representation – represent Engineering at SLT meetings, discuss P&L, safety and strategy.
- Bridge shop‑floor and boardroom – translate technical challenges into clear, data‑backed business cases.
- Global outage & contractor management – lead full‑line outages, manage logistics, safety and execution.
- Financial & resource stewardship – control maintenance and outage spend, manage the £4.5 m inventory.
- Safety, quality and hygiene – enforce procedures, ensure compliance, promote safe behaviour.
- Asset care management – execute programmes, support group strategy, lead AM, PRM, EEM initiatives, develop SAP PM.
- Stores management – optimise material handling via SAP MM, maintain stock accuracy and usage.
- Site services & energy management – drive KPI performance for water, air, gas, electricity and steam.
- Site electrical management – maintain compliance with electrical standards and legislation.
- Capital plan management – support capital projects from concept to sign‑off.
- Continuous improvement – target 80% planning, 5S, GMP, KPI reviews.
- People development – train, motivate and retain the engineering team, encourage ownership.
- Technical leadership – first point of support, develop skills, champion best practice.
- Communication – liaise with support functions, cross‑functional teams, daily engineering and manufacturing coordination.
Role Requirements:
- Time‑served engineer (Apprenticeship/NVQ Level 3) who has progressed to senior management – shop‑floor credibility.
- Formal Electrical or Mechanical qualifications.
- Proven experience managing large, multi‑tiered teams (40 +) in high‑speed food/FMCG environments.
Core Competencies:
- Passion for change – documented history of improving OEE and reducing reactive work.
- The “Cool Head” – calm, analytical under 24/7 pressure.
- Data‑driven – manage by numbers, proficient in CMMS.
- Strong operational grounding in a fast‑moving manufacturing environment.
- Experience with World‑Class Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
