About the Role

Princes Long Sutton are recruiting for an Asset Care Manager to join their Engineering Department. Reporting into the Site Engineering Manager, this position deputises and is key to ensuring the success of the site.

Position Overview

Princes Long Sutton is on a journey, aggressively moving away from a legacy of reactive firefighting toward a future of world‑class reliability and planned asset care. We have the investment, data, and roadmap – now we need an Asset Care Manager to lead the charge.

The Mission

  • Stop the Firefighting: transition the site from "fix‑on‑fail" to controlled, planned maintenance.
  • PPM Revolution: master and optimise the site’s 20,000+ preventive maintenance plans.
  • Culture of RCA: ensure Root Cause Analysis is a tool for permanent failure elimination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent Engineering at SLT meetings; articulate P&L, safety and operational strategy.
  • Bridge shop‑floor and boardroom; translate technical challenges into data‑backed business cases.
  • Lead full‑line outages with specialist OEM contractors worldwide, managing logistics, safety and technical execution.
  • Own maintenance and outage spend; control costs and optimise the £4.5m inventory.
  • Plan and deliver safety, cost, delivery, quality and people targets at lowest cost.
  • Implement asset care programmes using the Group PMS principles and the JIPM model.
  • Support Autonomous, Professional and Early Equipment Management (AM, PRM, EEM).
  • Direct on‑site contractors and in‑house resources; enforce H&S guidelines.
  • Champion rationalisation projects to improve margins and profitability.
  • Deliver energy‑management KPI standards for water, air, gas, electricity, and steam.
  • Support capital projects from concept to hand‑over, including installation, commissioning and training.
  • Drive continuous improvement: target 80% of engineering work planned, 20% devoting 75% utilisation of engineers.
  • Promote 5S, GMP and other improvement tools to enhance quality, safety, efficiency, waste reduction.
  • Lead training, development and motivation of the Engineering team.
  • Serve as the first technical support for Operations and Shift Managers on asset care matters.
  • Coordinate with support functions (HR, H&S, Manufacturing, Technical, Logistics and Finance) to ensure resources and communication are aligned.
  • Advise on asset care schedules in line with production priorities.

Experience Required

  • Time‑served engineer (Apprenticeship/NVQ Level 3) progressing to senior management.
  • Formal Electrical or Mechanical qualifications.
  • Proven experience managing large, multi‑tiered teams (40+ members) in high‑speed Food/FMCG environments.

Core Competencies

  • Passion for change; documented history of improving OEE and reducing reactive work.
  • Calm and analytical under 24/7 site pressure; confident authority in boardrooms.
  • Data‑driven; utilise CMMS and other tools to manage by numbers.
  • Strong operational grounding within a complex, fast‑moving manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with world‑class manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
