Role Description

Reporting to the site Manufacturing Manager, this role has responsibility for co-ordinating all activities concerning Hygiene including the management of the perimeter, storage, facilities, factory and Hygiene Systems. The role will lead, support, train and manage the Operations team to perform the required Hygiene practices within Factory operating environment, to the correct standard with a continuous improvement approach. This will form the basis of the site HACCP validation and operating parameters for all Cleaning and CIP aspects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hygiene Systems
    • Define all Hygiene based validation to support required standards for effective cleaning treatment of the plant underpinning the food safety requirements.
    • Define operating and critical parameters through validation and verification principles with clear site escalation requirements along with process deviation procedures. Share best practice across the food and drinks sector and group for an aligned way of working.
    • Complete studies on all equipment and manage any identified process performance differences working with suppliers and OEMs to achieve the desired Hygiene standards.
    • Manage and define the calibration requirements working with the Engineering team to ensure all equipment is assessed to a traceable national standard. Define methods of routine verification and certificate schedules.
    • Support the audit schedule for the site to maintain the site’s internal, GMP standards, pest management and hygiene compliance.
    • Adhere to the site Technical schedule is monitored, reported, KPI’d and audits are in place for measuring compliance and performance.
    • Engage with site meetings to ensure Hygiene requirements are factored into all scheduled activities including PPMs, OEM tasks, scheduled periodicals and shut down periods. Replan and monitor accordingly.
    • Respond to changes in the site KPI performance, reactive findings, audit non-conformities and continual improvement opportunities.
    • Review test methods and constantly assess whether they best represent the factory process results.
    • Ensure the sampling regime is representative of the finished cleans with the Operations function, giving the site confidence in the results to ensure good performance within the factory.
      • Ensure the critical parameters required are monitored.
      • Provide the required due diligence for supporting documentation or paperless systems.
      • Conduct reviews and elevate site trends where required.
      • Support the site internal audit systems to monitor site performance.
      • Work with the site technical, operations and engineering functions to evaluate SOPs, methodologies, practical application and trend results.
      • Work with the site teams to assess the monitoring, sign off of works, management review and auditing standards for cleaning results and recleaning frequencies.
      • Review results of testing and report where appropriate for any OOS results.
      • Ensure the Hygiene practices remain appropriate for current microbiological product performance and pest management.
      • Lead and manage the sites through any customer, BRC or legislation audit linked to Food safety, Integrity, Hygiene and SHE aspects of Hygiene management.
      • Define the standards to reflect pest control around site.
  • CIP
    • Conduct the annual health check on the site CIP performance testing all fail safe, alarms, verification of set points and effectiveness of the system.
    • Support the wider group and other sites in the process of annual health checks and validation protocols.
    • Determine opportunities for improvement: energy, chemicals, time or performance to achieve a continuous improvement result. Work with SHE, supplier and group to ensure chemicals remain fit for purpose.
    • Determine testing regimes to cover all CIP activity for verification of the defined set points continuing to meet the requirements of the site micro performance. Trend and review outputs with suppliers and procurement teams for compliance against specification parameters.
    • Define testing regimes for the critical parameters of the set to reflect the product portfolio to meet all legal, regulatory and customer requirements.
    • Define quality control aspects and manage practice, SOPs and procedures to determine a right first-time approach with escalation and process deviation requirements.
    • Manage equipment in use. Continuously review the best in market for assessment of microbiological and chemical analysis both on CIP and Hygiene function.
    • Conduct regular trend data assessments to support all site Hygiene meetings.
  • Hygiene Budgets
    • Review site spends on Hygiene consumables: tools, equipment, chemicals, and PPE.
    • Ensure ordering of site requirements meets the demand for chemicals, laundry and factory equipment.
    • Work with Group procurement to align for the Princes Group source 2 pay standards and contract requirements.
  • Team
    • Manage and motivate the operations/hygiene team to perform at the correct standard.
    • Lead and support the site in investigations into trends and over-specification results.
    • Embed correct systems and management tools to meet all Hygiene and CIP standards and requirements.
    • Develop training systems, tools and audit references to onboard multiskilled operatives to achieve required Hygiene standards.
    • Ensure all company discipline procedures are adhered to and document all discussions related to disciplinary procedures.
    • Review current structure of the Hygiene team, conduct a gap analysis with a prioritised plan to remove gaps.
    • Identify training needs for team and self, and promote personal ownership of training schedules and delivery.
    • Lead and support development plans and activity with developing team members.
    • Lead an active role in managing priorities as well as daily, weekly, monthly KPIs per the site meeting forums.
  • Process Improvement
    • Instigate and manage Hygiene related improvement projects, working with all disciplines to achieve best results cost-effectively.
    • Work with suppliers to gain knowledge of chemicals and equipment on the market. Devise training programmes and deliver them, sharing knowledge gained.
    • Review CIP systems to optimise performance with consideration of site KPI conditions, new chemicals, environmental and H&S factors to achieve desired outcomes.
    • Carry out other tasks reasonably requested by line manager.
    • Maintain product Food Safety, Legality, Integrity, Authenticity and Quality standards by ensuring all associated policies and procedures are adhered to.
