The Business Development Manager is a target-carrying new business role responsible for driving growth across a managed IT services, connectivity, cyber security, cloud, communications and wider technology portfolio.

The role will operate at a senior level with prospective clients, engaging business owners, senior stakeholders and IT decision-makers to understand their business challenges, priorities, budgets and long-term goals.

The Business Development Manager will identify opportunities, develop relationships, shape solutions and manage the sales process from initial conversation through to negotiation and close.

The role will suit someone who can move beyond product-led selling, build credibility with senior decision-makers and position the business as a trusted technology partner.

Responsibilities

  • New business development: Identify and win new customers, focusing on higher-value opportunities and taking a consultative approach to sales
  • Pipeline management: Build and manage a strong pipeline, taking ownership of opportunities throughout the full sales cycle
  • Senior-level engagement: Build relationships with business owners, senior stakeholders and IT decision-makers to understand their challenges, priorities and budgets
  • Consultative selling: Understand customer needs and position the right technology solutions around business outcomes, rather than simply selling individual products
  • Qualifying opportunities: Make sure opportunities are a good fit before committing internal time and resources
  • Proposals and presentations: Lead proposals, pricing and customer presentations, working with internal technical and sales teams where requires
  • Negotiation and closing: Manage objections, commercial discussions and negotiations through to a successful close
  • Target delivery: Take ownership of personal sales targets, including new business revenue, gross profit and recurring revenue
  • CRM and forecasting: Keep CRM records, opportunity details, next steps and forecasts accurate and up to date
  • Internal collaboration: Work closely with sales, pre-sales, technical, delivery, finance and procurement teams to make sure opportunities are managed effectively
  • Market awareness: Keep up to date with the local market, competitors, customer buying trends and relevant technology developments
  • Customer handover: Make sure new customers are handed over effectively to the delivery and account management teams with all relevant information

Requirements

  • Proven experience in target-carrying new business sales, ideally within managed services, IT, telecoms, cyber security, cloud, connectivity or a similar technology environment.
  • Strong commercial understanding and the ability to link technology solutions to customer needs and business outcomes.
  • Confident prospecting and networking skills, with the ability to build relationships with senior decision-makers.
  • A consultative approach to selling, with the ability to understand customer challenges and identify the right solutions.
  • Excellent communication, questioning and listening skills.
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills, with confidence handling objections and commercial conversations.
  • Comfortable managing more complex sales opportunities and working with internal technical teams.
  • Ability to manage a sales pipeline and keep CRM and forecasting information accurate.
  • Self-motivated, resilient and target-driven, with the discipline to manage activity and follow opportunities through to completion.
  • Able to work effectively with technical, operational and commercial teams to achieve the right outcome for customers and the business.
