As the existing transport team will be heavily involved in the project, you will play a key role in ensuring the day-to-day transport operation continues to run smoothly. Although initially offered as a fixed-term contract, there is potential for the position to become permanent following a review at the end of the project.
The Role
Working as part of a busy transport team, you will provide administrative and communication support to ensure deliveries are effectively coordinated and customers receive excellent service throughout the process. With approximately 50 vehicles operating daily, you will act as a central point of contact between drivers, customers and the wider transport team, helping to manage any delays, issues or updates that may arise throughout the day.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing daily transport plans and understanding scheduled routes and deliveries.
- Monitoring driver updates through the transport communication system and responding to any delays or operational issues.
- Liaising with customers to provide delivery updates and revised estimated arrival times where required.
- Communicating with drivers to obtain information and support the smooth running of daily operations.
- Welcoming drivers back at the end of their routes and collecting completed paperwork.
- Providing general administrative support to the transport department.
- Assisting the wider team with ad-hoc duties and ensuring excellent communication across the operation.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous administration experience within a busy office environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Confident communication skills, both over the phone and in writing.
- The ability to remain calm and organised during busy periods whilst also staying motivated during quieter times.
- A positive, proactive and flexible approach to work.
- Strong team-working skills and a willingness to support colleagues whenever required.
- Confidence liaising with both customers and drivers to provide updates and resolve queries.
- Experience within a transport, logistics or distribution environment would be advantageous, although it is not essential.
Working Hours
The role operates on a rotating shift pattern:
Week 1: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm
Week 2: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm
In addition:
- 1 Saturday in every 7 will need to be worked.
- 1 in every 3 Bank Holidays will need to be covered (The business is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day).
This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive team and gain valuable experience within a busy transport operation, with the possibility of securing a permanent position following the completion of the fixed-term contract.
