Wills and Probate Assistant Telford, Shropshire Temporary to Permanent Circa £23,000 - £25,000 Depending on Experience Monday – Friday 35 hours per week We are recruiting for and Wills and Probate Assistant to join our Telford based client.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience in this specific sector in law, or someone with that has other legal industry experience that is happy to work in this sector.

There is a permanent vacancy available in this team and depending on your availability they may start this role as a temp-to-perm contract, or may consider going immediately to permanent for the right experience.

You will report directly to the Wills and Probate Manager.

Your duties will include

  • Supporting the smooth running of the department in the absence of the Wills and Probate Manager and ensuring client queries are dealt with promptly and professionally.
  • Maintaining and updating Wills, LPAs and Probate precedents and databases.
  • Handling telephone, email and other client enquiries.
  • Taking and passing on telephone, fax and email messages, ensuring they are dealt with promptly.
  • Providing clients with a friendly, efficient and professional service both over the telephone and in person.
  • Assisting the Wills and Probate Manager with general administrative duties, including typing letters and documents, filing and copying.
  • Preparing correspondence, documents, mail and relevant enclosures.
  • Assisting with the administration of Private Client files from opening through to completion and archiving.
  • Making appointments and maintaining and reviewing the department diary on a daily basis.
  • Assisting with the financial administration of client files, ensuring all transactions are communicated to the Accounts Clerk and accurately recorded on the relevant file.
  • Conducting research into relevant legal issues.
  • Drafting legal documents and correspondence.
  • Meeting with clients on behalf of the department to assist with matters including Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate.
  • Carrying out regular file reviews to ensure records are accurate and up to date.
  • Providing cover for colleagues when required.
  • Supporting and providing guidance to new, inexperienced or temporary members of staff where appropriate. Skills and Experience
  • The ideal candidate will have some form of previous legal experience, ideally in Wills and Probate, or has worked in a legal practice in another specialism.

We may also consider legal graduates; however, some work experience would be preferred but not essential.

  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes and procedures.
  • A willingness to develop strong secretarial and administrative skills.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • A methodical and tidy approach to work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Good judgement and common sense when managing competing demands.
  • The ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. The Ideal Candidate Must Have:
  • Previous office-based experience.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Good typing speed and excellent typing accuracy.
  • Strong spelling and punctuation with excellent attention to detail.
