We’re hiring a Lead Data Engineer / Solution Architect on a contract basis. Primus Core is a delivery-led Data & AI consultancy, built around the Databricks ecosystem. We work with organisations that actually want their data platforms to work in production, not endless POCs or slide decks.
This role is for someone senior, with Solutions Architecture skills but still hands-on.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading the design and build of modern data platforms, largely Databricks-based
- Acting as the technical lead on client work — setting direction, standards, and approach
- Staying close to the code: pipelines, optimisation, reviews, design decisions
- Working directly with clients to solve real problems, not just deliver tickets
- Helping shape how we deliver projects as a consultancy as we grow
You’re expected to be technically strong and visible as well as being able to lead and guide less experienced Engineers on the technical.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience as a Senior or Lead Data Engineer
- Strong experience with Unity Catalog specifically and Data Governance generally
- Strong SQL and Python
- A good understanding of data modelling, performance, and cost trade-offs
- Comfort working in client-facing environments
- An interest in setting standards and mentoring others
- Consultancy experience is useful, but not required
- Experience with FinOps is desirable
This role will be remote-first, with occasional travel to London. The role will be paid at circa £600 - £700, outside of IR35, depending on skills and experience.
