Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineering Lead – Manufacturing IO to play a key role within the Vehicle Health Management (VHM) programme.

This strategic role sits at the intersection of automotive manufacturing, systems engineering and connected vehicle technology, acting as the primary systems engineering interface between Manufacturing IO, plant operations, engineering and VHM teams.

The successful candidate will lead the integration of diagnostics, software updates and connected vehicle capabilities into manufacturing environments, helping enable wireless, remote and hands-free diagnostic solutions.

The role will contribute to the transition towards software-driven, connected manufacturing while improving Right First Time (RFT), production throughput, operational efficiency, software quality and cost performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent Manufacturing IO as the systems engineering lead within the VHM programme.
  • Lead requirements engineering activities, including the capture, management, validation and traceability of manufacturing requirements.
  • Use established requirements management tools such as DOORS/DOORS NG, TRM or equivalent.
  • Define and maintain system architectures using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and Sys ML modelling.
  • Establish and manage interfaces between vehicle diagnostics platforms, plant IT systems, manufacturing infrastructure and engineering systems.
  • Translate manufacturing and plant operational requirements into clear and actionable engineering specifications.
  • Lead systems-level integration activities across manufacturing, engineering, IT and VHM teams.
  • Enable the deployment of wireless, remote and hands-free diagnostic capabilities within manufacturing environments.
  • Support the implementation of full ECU software update and flash programming capability within manufacturing.
  • Contribute to the flash tower strategy and wider technology innovation roadmap.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks, dependencies, integration challenges and delivery constraints.
  • Support solutions that improve Right First Time (RFT), production throughput, efficiency and software quality.
  • Ensure systems engineering decisions balance technological innovation with operational feasibility.
  • Drive collaboration and alignment across multidisciplinary technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide systems engineering leadership throughout the system lifecycle, from requirements definition through integration and deployment.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • 10+ years of experience within the automotive industry, preferably with exposure to manufacturing or production environments.
  • Strong systems engineering experience within automotive, manufacturing or complex engineering environments.
  • Proven experience in requirements engineering, management and lifecycle traceability.
  • Practical knowledge of MBSE and Sys ML modelling.
  • Experience using requirements and systems engineering tools such as DOORS NG, Rhapsody or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes and production challenges.
  • Knowledge of automotive diagnostic technologies and protocols, including UDS, Do IP and/or SOVD.
  • Experience or understanding of ECU software flashing, programming and software update processes within automotive environments.
  • Understanding of connected vehicle, Io T or other connected-system architectures.
  • Experience working across vehicle engineering, manufacturing, IT and software/diagnostics.
  • Strong understanding of system interfaces, dependencies and integration challenges.
