Rust gives memory safety without a garbage collector, which makes it a good fit for very fast web servers, heavy data processing and anything that must not fall over.

It is the right tool for a small part of what we build, usually the part with the tightest limits on speed or memory.

You will build services in Actix Web or Rocket, compile Rust to Web Assembly where the browser needs more speed than Java Script gives, and work closely with the developers whose systems your code sits next to.

  • What you will be doing
  • Build and maintain web services and APIs in Actix Web or Rocket.
  • Compile Rust to Web Assembly for work too heavy for Java Script in the browser.
  • Write fast, safe tools for processing feeds, files and data.
  • Measure performance before and after a change, and keep only what moved the number.
  • Review colleagues' code and have yours reviewed.
  • What you will need
  • At least five years of commercial work in this field that you can show us. We promise clients that everyone on their project has that, so it is not negotiable.
  • Rust you shipped and supported in production, or a published crate we can read.
  • A working grasp of ownership, lifetimes and async Rust.
  • At least one other back-end language, so you know when Rust is worth it.
  • Git in daily use.
  • Useful, not required
  • Web Assembly with wasm-bindgen or similar.
  • Docker, Linux and the basics of running what you build.

How to prepare for a job interview at Primo Interactive Limited

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Primo Interactive Limited uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

✨Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
