We're partnered with a global financial services consulting firm seeking a highly experienced Engineer with deep Java expertise to join their growing engineering practice in London. Renowned for their entrepreneurial culture and high-impact delivery for Tier 1 financial institutions, this is an exceptional opportunity for a senior engineer ready to take technical ownership and shape the architecture of complex, enterprise-scale systems.

You'll be working across a range of client-facing projects in financial services - designing and building cloud-native backend solutions from the ground up, contributing to architecture decisions, and collaborating closely with product and engineering teams.

What you'll be doing:

  • Crafting high-performance, distributed backend systems that sit at the core of enterprise financial platforms - using modern Java and Spring Boot
  • Taking the lead on service design and API development, ensuring solutions are robust, maintainable, and built to last
  • Owning the full deployment lifecycle on AWS - from infrastructure provisioning through to live production environments - with automation and repeatability at the forefront
  • Getting stuck into architecture conversations early, bringing strong opinions and practical experience to the table
  • Raising the bar on quality - defining and implementing testing strategies that give teams genuine confidence in what they ship
  • Partnering closely with client stakeholders, product thinkers, and fellow engineers in fast-moving agile environments

What we're looking for:

  • A seasoned Java engineer with a strong command of modern Java versions and a proven ability to deliver at scale using Spring Boot
  • Someone who thinks in systems - comfortable reasoning about event-driven architectures, distributed data flows, and complex integration patterns
  • Hands-on experience running workloads in AWS, with a solid understanding of how to build and maintain cloud infrastructure responsibly
  • Practical knowledge of message streaming technologies and how they're used to connect systems reliably at scale
  • Confidence working across different data storage paradigms - knowing when to reach for relational vs. non-relational solutions
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to navigate technical complexity and bring others along with you
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD and BDD/Cucumber test frameworks
  • A desire to mentor junior engineers and contribute beyond day-to-day delivery
