We’re working with a high-growth, Series A–backed startup building a new category of AI software to help companies automate operations using their internal (tribal) knowledge. The team is deeply technical, with a strong focus on quality, ownership, and long-term impact. This is a hands-on role for engineers who enjoy working at the intersection of applied AI research and real-world production systems.

The Role

As a Senior AI Engineer, you’ll design, build, and ship LLM-powered systems that solve real customer problems. You’ll work across the full lifecycle from early research and prototyping to production deployment and evaluation. You’ll be comfortable switching between high-level system design and low-level debugging, whether that’s tuning an evaluation framework, scaling async workflows, or understanding why an agent behaved unexpectedly in production.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement LLM-based systems and agentic workflows
  • Build and maintain evaluation frameworks to measure and improve model performance
  • Develop scalable, asynchronous systems for AI orchestration
  • Work on RAG pipelines, multi-agent systems, and production LLM workflows
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, researchers, and product teams
  • Contribute to AI strategy and long-term technical direction

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience building and deploying non-trivial AI systems in production
  • Strong understanding of ML and deep learning fundamentals
  • Experience with LLMs, agents, RAG, or large-scale inference pipelines
  • Ability to move comfortably between research papers and production code
  • Curiosity, ownership, and a strong desire to keep improving

Research indicates that men will apply to a role when they only meet 50-60% of the descriptions, however, when looking at women and other minority groups, they can look for up to a 99% match in order to apply to a role. If you feel you are a fit for our role, please still apply, don’t worry if you don’t tick every single box. We’d still love to hear from you. We encourage underrepresented talent to apply to all our roles & support accessibility needs.

How to prepare for a job interview at Primis

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Primis uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

✨Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
