An Introduction to Primer

Primer is the world's first unified payment infrastructure, founded by former leaders of Braintree and PayPal. We unify fragmented payment and finance systems into a single, intelligent platform, automating the entire payments lifecycle from acceptance and orchestration to reconciliation, FX, and financial operations. Trusted by leading merchants worldwide, we give finance, payments, and engineering teams the tools to move faster, reduce complexity, and unlock growth. Our open, modular platform connects to 150+ services across the payments ecosystem, while our expanding CFO product suite brings unified reconciliation, FX management, and financial visibility across markets and currencies.

Which team will you be joining?

At Primer, the Talent team is responsible for building the teams that power our growth. We operate as true business partners, working closely with leaders across GTM, Product, and Engineering to define hiring strategy, unlock new markets and bring in exceptional talent from around the world. We care deeply about quality, pace and impact. That means going beyond delivery, bringing sharp market insight, raising the bar on hiring decisions and continuously improving how we attract and assess talent. If you’re excited by the challenge of building high performing teams in a fast-scaling, global environment, you’ll find plenty of ownership and opportunity here.

What will you be doing?

  • Owning a portfolio of 4–6 live roles at any time. End to end - intake, search strategy, sourcing, candidate assessment, offer and close.
  • Partnering with hiring managers across multiple functions. One week you might be running a Staff Engineer search, the next a product hire, the next a senior Finance role. Running structured intake sessions that turn briefs into sharp search strategies.
  • Driving candidate experience that reflects how Primer actually works - fast, honest, considered. No silence, no ghosting, no generic comms.
  • Calibrating with hiring managers throughout the search and shifting strategy when needed.
  • Closing offers solo. Building the case, navigating counter offers and raising the Primer bar.
  • Leaving the function in better shape than you found it. Clean Ashby hygiene, documented searches, market insights captured for the team to build on.

What we’d love to see:

  • 5+ years running in house technical or GTM recruiting at a high growth company.
  • A track record of running senior searches solo, end to end, without needing oversight on each stage.
  • Genuine fluency across multiple hiring areas — you don't need to have hired every function before, but you need to be able to learn a new one in a week, not a quarter.
  • Sharp judgement on candidates. You can articulate why someone is or isn't right, beyond gut feel.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and a heavy load. This is six months of real volume, not a coast.

You may not like it here if:

  • This is a remote contractor role with real autonomy, but it comes with the expectation that you manage your own time and output without regular check-ins to keep you on track.
  • Primer hires to a high bar across the business and expects sourcing to reflect that: high-volume outreach with low signal will be noticed quickly.
  • Priorities shift week to week as the business evolves. If you need a stable, predictable workload to do your best work, this won't suit you.
  • You’ll be expected to contribute beyond your core brief when the team needs it. If the scope feels like too much, it probably is.

What’s life like at Primer?

We’ve been recognised as a top global employer, #1 in FinTech for ‘flexibility’! We’re building a culture where people can come and do their best work and enjoy it. We want our people to be proud of the impact that they have at Primer, and of the work that they are doing. You will be working with a team of people who are mission-driven, smart, and reflective, and who are invested in building exceptional products and delivering success for our merchants (and we also know how to have fun along the way).

We work remotely. We believe that building a successful, profitable company goes beyond proximity. We invest in our relationships with each other through great remote working practices and thoughtfully designed face-to-face time together. Our heads-together time comes in the form of workstations, our annual company retreat, and co-working space access worldwide.

Finally, let’s go ahead and say it. The work that we do is challenging. Startups are a challenge, building category defining products is a challenge. You should be prepared for a challenge at Primer. But, there’s a big difference between a challenge and a struggle. The key difference is that the right challenge comes with the right support structures, an acceptance that not everything always goes to plan, a collaborative environment, and a great team around you. It’s never a challenge that you will face alone.

Don’t meet every single requirement?

At Primer, we’re dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles. Primer is committed to the equal treatment of all current and prospective employees, regardless of background or beliefs. Primer adopts a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination. We are committed to providing equal opportunities to all current and prospective employees regardless of age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, or marriage and civil partnership.
