A day in the life

At 8:00 a.m., you review the work queue for tugs, belt loaders, deicers, and power units. You fuel, top off hydraulic reservoirs, and log each unit before diving into diagnostics. One hour you’re rebuilding a brake system; the next, you’re tracing an electrical fault with a multimeter and OEM manuals open on your tablet. After lunch, you’re pressure-testing a hydraulic circuit on a lift, replacing a worn bushing on an undercarriage, and closing the loop with parts tracking and service notes. By 5:00 p.m., you’ve returned critical GSE to service—safely, efficiently, and to spec.

What you’ll work on

  • Perform advanced maintenance and repairs on motorized and non‑motorized airline and aircraft ground service equipment.
  • Service units with fuel, water, oil, hydraulic fluid, and compressed air; log equipment numbers and note required work.
  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, replace, repair, overhaul, or modify: engines and transmissions; electrical systems; brakes and braking systems; hydraulic and pneumatic systems on mobile lift and conveyor systems; bumpers and bodywork; bag cart curtains and curtain rods; towing hitches and tow bars; undercarriages, wheels, and tires; bushings, shafts, end places/plates, springs, coils, armatures, push rods, valves, manifolds, tubing, hose, and wiring.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using OEM guidance, test equipment, and industry standards; operate and test ground equipment to verify performance.
  • Remove, test, repair, or replace components such as carburetors, governors, air and oil cleaners, ignition points, and auditory sensors.
  • Check and adjust tolerances on valves, bearings, cams, clutches, and drive shafts.
  • Complete service documentation and parts tracking; uphold safety procedures and PrimeFlight’s service standards; other duties as assigned.
