Programme: ESOL & Employability Skills - Hillingdon

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, committed ESOL & Employability Skills Trainer to deliver an intensive 12-week programme supporting adult learners in the London Borough of Hillingdon to build functional English skills (aligned to British Council CEFR levels A1–B2) alongside practical employability skills, with the aim of moving participants into sustainable UK employment or further vocational training.

This is a hands‑on, face‑to‑face delivery role for a trainer who is local to, or able to reliably commute to, Hillingdon on a consistent basis, and who can commit fully to the programme calendar from start to finish — including a post‑employment in‑work support period for learners who move into jobs during or after the course.

Candidates should be based in or within easy commuting distance of Hillingdon.

  • Contract type: Freelance/Contract (self‑employed)
  • Start date: First week of November 2026
  • Duration: 12 weeks of intensive delivery, plus up to 4 weeks of post‑employment in‑work support (1 hour per week, per learner who enters employment)
  • Delivery pattern: 3 days per week, 4 GLH per day (Session time 10am–2.30pm), face‑to‑face
  • Rate: £30–£35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Location: Hillingdon (in‑person delivery — this is not a remote role)

What You’ll Be Delivering

  • A structured, intensive ESOL curriculum (CEFR A1–B2 equivalent) built around everyday UK life and the world of UK work
  • An Employment Support strand covering CV creation, job search and digital literacy, interview preparation, and workplace readiness, delivered through workshops and 1-2-1 sessions
  • A Progression strand supporting learners into further training (e.g. care, construction, hospitality) or employment
  • Safeguarding and Prevent/British Values sessions
  • Bespoke 1-2-1 initial assessments and ongoing Individual Learning Plans for every learner
  • Up to 4 weeks of post‑employment in‑work support (1 hour per week, per learner who enters employment) for learners who secure a job during or shortly after the programme

What We’re Looking For

  • A desirable skill set for working in a multilingual, multicultural context serving multiple diaspora communities - Afghani, Somali, Arabic, Indian.
  • Proven experience delivering ESOL and/or employability skills training to adult learners, ideally within a community, Jobcentre-referred, or skills bootcamp context
  • Recognised ESOL teaching qualification (e.g. CELTA, DELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of CEFR levels and experience differentiating delivery across mixed‑ability groups
  • Experience or confidence delivering employability content: CV workshops, interview coaching, digital literacy, job search support
  • Awareness of DWP working‑age benefits and the Jobcentre referral process is an advantage
  • A genuinely strong social conscience, cultural sensitivity, and the empathy needed to work with a cohort that may include vulnerable adults — no political bias, and a non‑judgemental, supportive approach is essential
  • Based locally to Hillingdon, or able to commit to consistent in‑person attendance for the full duration of the contract
  • Full availability and commitment for the entire 12‑week programme plus the 4‑week in‑work support tail is essential — this role requires absolute reliability and accountability from day one through to completion.

We understand that strong trainers come from a range of backgrounds — if you don't meet every requirement above but have relevant experience and the right approach, we'd still like to hear from you.

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to make a genuine, measurable difference to adults building a new life and career in the UK — combining language teaching with real employability outcomes, strong local employer links, and a programme designed around dignity, confidence and progression, not just classroom hours.
