Job Purpose
To start as a daily teacher to then go Perm. To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Health and Social Care, ensuring that all learners are supported and challenged to achieve their full potential. The post holder will contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and the wider life of the department, promoting excellence in education and fostering an understanding of the values and principles that underpin health and social care practice.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons across a range of Health and Social Care qualifications (e.g. BTEC, OCR, NVQ, or A Level).
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Ensure lessons are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with current curriculum requirements.
- Assess, record, and report on students' progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
- Promote active learning, critical thinking, and practical application of theory.
- Curriculum and Assessment
- Contribute to the design and development of the Health and Social Care curriculum.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector standards, policies, and legislation (e.g. safeguarding, equality, and health promotion).
- Prepare learners for internal and external assessments, ensuring high achievement and progression rates.
- Participate in internal moderation and standardisation processes to maintain assessment quality.
- Student Support
- Provide academic and pastoral support to students, encouraging positive attitudes and resilience.
- Promote employability skills and progression into further education, apprenticeships, or the health and social care workforce.
- Act as a role model for professionalism and ethical practice.
- Quality and Professional Development
- Participate in staff development, training, and performance review activities.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, open events, and quality assurance activities.
- Maintain professional standards in accordance with teaching regulations and institutional policies.
Person Specification
- Essential
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- Degree or Level 4+ qualification in Health and Social Care or a related field.
- Experience of teaching or training within Health and Social Care.
- Strong understanding of current health and social care practices, legislation, and values.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Desirable
- Experience of assessing vocational qualifications (e.g. BTEC or NVQ).
- Industry experience within a health or social care setting.
- Experience supporting learners with additional needs.
