Belfast City Council is seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our City Services (Resources and Fleet) team as a Priority Waste Driver / Operative. This is an important frontline role supporting the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of Belfast through priority waste collection, cleansing operations, and environmental services.

The Role

  • Driving council vehicles and operating safely within daily routes and schedules
  • Collecting and transporting priority waste including bulky household items, fridge freezers, and recyclable materials
  • Carrying out priority cleansing duties including:
    • Street cleansing
    • Graffiti and fly-poster removal
    • Gum removal
    • Street furniture washing
    • Land clearance and street washing
  • Supporting general waste collection and street cleansing services when required
  • Completing all relevant paperwork, driver checks, and incident reporting documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and council procedures
  • Working effectively as part of an operational team in a public-facing environment
  • Assisting with emergency and seasonal duties including snow clearance and gritting operations

Essential Criteria

  • Hold a full current Category C1 driving licence
  • Hold a valid Driver CPC Qualification Card
  • Demonstrate at least 6 months' experience in:
    • Driving within a commercial or public sector environment
    • Dealing directly with members of the public

Applicants must also successfully complete a driving assessment as part of the recruitment process.
