We're looking for reliable, hardworking Refuse Loaders to join the Environmental Cleansing Service in Newry.

This is a hands-on role where every day makes a visible difference.

Working as part of a close-knit collection team, you'll help deliver an essential household, commercial and recycling collection service across the Council District - whatever the weather.

What will you be doing? As a Refuse Loader, you'll play an important role in keeping local communities clean and safe. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Collecting household, commercial, industrial and recyclable refuse from homes, shops, schools and other locations.

Handling a range of refuse containers, including sacks, wheelie bins and larger bins.

Working alongside the vehicle driver and supporting the safe and efficient operation of the collection vehicle.

Assisting with vehicle manoeuvring where appropriate and once trained.

Clearing spillages, loose refuse and litter arising from collection activities.

Reporting damaged or unemptied bins and any refuse disposal issues to the Team Leader.

Communicating courteously with members of the public about collection requirements.

Operating vehicle equipment and safety apparatus in accordance with training and procedures.

Identifying and reporting public safety hazards and issues affecting the local environment.

Using assigned radio telecommunications equipment in line with relevant legislation and procedures.

What are we looking for? We're looking for people who are dependable, physically active and team-focused, with a strong commitment to providing a quality public service.

You'll need to be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and dealing courteously and professionally with members of the public.

A flexible approach is essential, as the service continues to evolve and the duties of the role may change to meet the needs of the organisation.

If you take pride in doing a job that genuinely matters to your local community, we'd love to hear from you.

Why this role matters

Refuse collection is more than simply moving bins.

It's an essential public service that helps keep neighbourhoods clean, protects public safety and supports recycling across the district.
