Experienced Vehicle Mechanic – Council Workshop Location: Harlow, Essex Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm Pay: £19.50 per hour PAYE or £24.00 per hour umbrella Permanent salary: £35,000 per year upon permanent appointment Start date: 5 October 2026 Job type: Full-time, temporary to permanent Prime Jobs Recruitment is looking for an experienced Vehicle Mechanic to join a council workshop supporting property and environmental services in Harlow. You will mainly work on vans, carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs to keep the fleet safe and operational. Experience working on tractors, lawnmowers, road sweepers or other commercial plant and grounds maintenance equipment would be a significant advantage. Your responsibilities Service, maintain and repair vans and other fleet vehicles. Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out appropriate repairs. Complete vehicle inspections and accurately record work undertaken. Support maintenance of plant and specialist equipment where your experience allows. Maintain a safe, tidy workshop and follow health and safety procedures. What we're looking for Previous professional experience as a vehicle mechanic. Relevant mechanical qualifications, with copies of certificates required . Experience servicing, diagnosing faults and repairing vans. A reliable approach, attention to detail and the ability to work independently and within a team. Experience with commercial plant or grounds maintenance equipment would be a bonus.
