Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to take ownership of innovative product development projects within a highly technical engineering environment? We are currently recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist manufacturing team based in Newmarket on a fixed term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of new products from concept through to manufacturing, working on advanced engineering solutions for various sectors. This role would suit a proactive and technically strong character who enjoys solving complex challenges, leading projects, and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of new products from concept through to production
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD drawings and documentation
  • Carry out FEA analysis to validate designs and predict mechanical performance
  • Oversee prototype manufacture, testing, and validation activities
  • Perform tolerance analysis, including GD&T principles
  • Create and maintain drawings and technical documentation to BS8888 standards
  • Act as Lead on projects and bids when required
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the wider design team
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the required quality standards

About You

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical product design and development
  • Strong experience taking products through the full life cycle
  • Proficient with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks experience advantageous)
  • Experience using FEA and simulation tools to support design decisions
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, BS8888, and ISO standards
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of projects from concept to delivery
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
