We are recruiting for a Lead Trailer Body Fabricator to join a specialist Catering manufacturer based in Essex, on a great hourly rate of £20p/h. This is a hands-on, senior fabrication role where you will take ownership of building complete trailer bodies from chassis stage through to painted shell, working on high-quality, bespoke units used across events, exhibitions and mobile catering environments. This role would suit an experienced Fabricator, with TIG / MIG welding experience who enjoys responsibility and producing a finished product they can take real pride in.

The Role

  • As Lead Body Fabricator, you will be responsible for the end-to-end build of trailer bodies, ensuring accuracy, structural integrity, and finish, with MIG and TIG practices.
  • You will work directly from fabrication drawings, fabricate frames, assemble full body shells, and liaise closely with the paint department to ensure smooth handover.
  • You will be trusted to work independently, setting the standard for quality and productivity on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate complete trailer frames and bodies from drawings
  • MIG, TIG and laser welding of aluminium and steel
  • Assemble floors, walls, roofs, doors, hatches and access panels
  • Ensure squareness, alignment, watertightness and structural integrity
  • Maintain a high standard of finish throughout the build
  • Prepare and hand over completed bodies to the paint department
  • Work efficiently to agreed build schedules

Key Performance Expectations

  • Build and complete one full trailer body every 4-5 days
  • Zero rework due to alignment issues, leaks or poor finish

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 5+ year's fabrication experience
  • Confident reading and working from fabrication drawings
  • Strong welding ability with aluminium and steel
  • Able to work unsupervised and take ownership of builds
  • High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
