An established and growing manufacturer of construction products is seeking an experienced Works Manager to lead its production operation in Colchester. This is a hands-on management role, ideal for someone with experience in heavy manufacturing, construction materials, concrete, aggregates, quarrying, precast, asphalt, recycling or other industrial production environments.
You will be responsible for managing a team of around 15 production staff, ensuring efficient manufacturing, maintaining quality standards and driving continuous improvement across the site.
Duties- Lead and manage a team of 15 production operatives
- Oversee day-to-day manufacturing and production activities
- Plan and coordinate daily, weekly and monthly production schedules
- Drive productivity improvements and reduce waste
- Monitor quality, output and production performance
- Implement and maintain company procedures and policies
- Train, coach and develop production staff
- Ensure Health & Safety and environmental standards are met
- Investigate and resolve production issues
- Ensure products are prepared correctly for dispatch
- Oversee vehicle loading and on-time deliveries
- Previous experience as a Works Manager, Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Factory Manager or Operations Manager
- Background within heavy manufacturing or construction product manufacturing
- Proven people management and leadership experience
- Strong understanding of production planning and continuous improvement
- Health & Safety knowledge (IOSH qualification desirable)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Hands-on approach with the ability to lead by example
- £40,000 - £50,000 depending on experience
- Monday to Friday, day shift (typically 6am-2pm, flexibility required)
- 20 days holiday plus bank holidays
