If so, we are seeking a Trainee Mechanical Technician to join a supportive, specialist engineering team in Colchester.

Based entirely in a precision workshop, you will learn to build, set up, calibrate, test, and overhaul mechanical governors used in heavy industrial engines and machinery.

No prior governor experience is required as full comprehensive training is provided from day one.

Duties

  • Assembly: Build and assemble mechanical governor units and precision sub-assemblies.
  • Testing & Calibration: Set up governors on specialist test benches and calibrate to exact specifications.
  • Overhaul: Strip down, inspect, clean, and assess returned units and components for wear and tolerances.
  • Documentation: Complete accurate service records, test reports, and quality checks.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside senior technicians on complex builds and fault investigations.

Skills and Experience

  • Mechanical Aptitude: A strong background in automotive, plant, marine, agricultural, or industrial mechanics.
  • Hands-on Skills: Proven experience using hand tools, power tools, and working with mechanical assemblies.
  • Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail, precision, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Eagerness to Learn: Ability to follow structured engineering drawings and technical instructions.
