Part Time Buyer

Location : Chelmsford

Employment Type: Permanent, Part-time 24 hours per week (3 full days or 5 short days considered as long as they include Mondays & Thursdays)

Salary: Circa £30,000-£36,000 pro rata (£18,000 – £21,560 part time salary)

Start Date : ASAP

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Production Buyer to join our procurement team in Chelmsford. This role is key to ensuring smooth production operations by managing procurement processes, maintaining stock levels, and collaborating with internal teams and suppliers. It offers part-time working, with the requirement to align with the Purchasing Manager at least one day per week.

Key Duties include but are not limited to :

  • Source and purchase raw materials, parts, and services based on forecasts and production needs.
  • Build and manage supplier relationships; resolve any delivery or quality issues.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels; collaborate with production to align inventory with schedules.
  • Create and manage accurate purchase orders and maintain thorough records.
  • Ensure all materials meet company quality standards, working closely with QC teams.
  • Address procurement-related issues that could impact production timelines.
  • Coordinate with production planners, engineers, and other teams.
  • Adhere to company policies, legal requirements, and environmental standards.

Skills and Experience required to be considered for this Production Buyer position :

  • A qualification in Supply Chain or Business is preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years in purchasing / procurement, ideally within manufacturing and production.
  • Strong understanding of procurement, materials management, and supply chain logistics.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems is essential.
  • CIPS or other related procurement / supply chain certifications (desirable).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
