Primary Integrated Community Services are supporting Bassetlaw Hospice with the recruitment for the following vacancy.

Role Purpose

To maintain high standards of excellence at Bassetlaw Hospice by overseeing the day-to-day management of the catering and housekeeping service. This includes working regular shifts in the kitchen, planning and preparing homemade meals that meet a variety of dietary requirements, and managing domestic duties to ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment in compliance with infection prevention and control standards.

Main Duties

  • Provide line management, supervision and support for the Catering & Housekeeping team and volunteers.
  • Facilitate training and supervision for staff and volunteers.
  • Plan and prepare meals for patients with varying nutritional and dietary needs.
  • Undertake nutritional assessments and provide basic health education relating to diet and nutrition.
  • Manage catering and housekeeping budgets, including ordering supplies and processing invoices.
  • Organise and deliver staff training in COSHH, HACCP, Food Safety, Allergens, Legionella and IDDSI.
  • Manage stock control for catering, housekeeping, laundry and PPE, including monitoring product recalls.
  • Ensure compliance with COSHH, Food Safety, Allergen and HACCP guidelines.
  • Maintain 'Safer Food Better Business' standards and ensure food safety audits maintain a 5-star rating.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers comply with food safety and allergen regulations and maintain an allergen database.
  • Assist with the organisation of catering events (e.g., hospice open days).
  • Undertake audits, develop and oversee schedules for catering and housekeeping services.
  • Work closely with the Facilities Lead where responsibilities are shared.
  • Ensure compliance with CQC, food safety and infection control standards.
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, carers, staff, and volunteers, ensuring confidentiality at all times.

General Duties

  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all Bassetlaw Hospice colleagues.
  • Ensure all staff complete mandatory training.
  • Respect confidentiality across all aspects of hospice work.
  • Abide by the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Work within Bassetlaw Hospice policies and procedures.
  • Plan and facilitate team meetings and contribute to induction of new staff.
  • Always behave in a professional manner, reflecting and maintaining Bassetlaw Hospice values.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as directed.
  • In all actions undertaken, maintain and promote the hospice's reputation.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • BSC (Catering), MHCIM, HND, City and Guilds 706/1 and 2, NVQ level 2 and 3, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate and NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking (or equivalent).
  • NVQ Level 3 in Kitchen Supervision (or working towards).

Experience

  • Experience managing a kitchen, including staff supervision and budget management.

Skills and Attributes

  • Flexibility, excellent listening skills, and ability to build rapport with others.
  • Friendly, compassionate and sensitive approach.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
