The Primary Care Business Support Unit (BSU) works in partnership with PICS practices and external parties to provide administrative support across a range of functions. The unit identifies emerging projects, works toward standardising working practices, and reduces the clinical and administrative burden faced by practices. Position is based at PICS HQ with ad hoc travel to practices and external sites as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide day‑to‑day effective and efficient administration support.
  • Process incoming emails and hard‑copy information requests accurately and appropriately.
  • Ensure high level of confidentiality and information governance.
  • Maintain daily data entry and processing using SystmOne and other databases.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical, administrative teams and external contacts.
  • Make judgements on issues and refer to more senior staff or clinicians when necessary.
  • Coordinate coverage for colleagues in the BSU.
  • Achieve set targets and key performance indicators.
  • Complete relevant training, including for research activity, and participate in team meetings.
  • Occasional travel to practices and face‑to‑face patient contact.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Good general education with Maths and English qualifications.
  • Previous and demonstrable experience in a patient/public‑facing role.
  • Excellent administration skills, ability to work as part of a team and follow management instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good team‑working skills and positive communication with patients and colleagues.
