We are recruiting on behalf of Brine Leas School where you will gain valuable experience as a Level 3 Information Communications Technician, following the Support Technician pathway. We pride ourselves on the support we give our apprentices; you won’t be left on your own to figure things out.
About The Employer
Brine Leas School is a mixed comprehensive school for students aged 11–18, situated in the picturesque market town of Nantwich, Cheshire. The school’s IT team, based on site, also provides full support services to an additional 10 nearby primary schools.
Staff benefit from convenient onsite parking, access to an onsite coffee shop and gym, and regular social events.
All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS certificate. As the post will involve regulated activity with children, it is a criminal offence to apply if you are on the children’s barred list held by the DBS. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered prior to the interview.
Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as the role will be split across schools in the Nantwich area.
What you will be doing
- Installation and preparation of new IT hardware and infrastructure.
- Complete minor repairs and upgrades to equipment and cabling.
- Maintain an asset register.
- Manage helpdesk, ensuring calls are resolved and closed in a timely manner.
- Escalate calls to third‑party support where necessary.
- Provide software support for all users, familiar with current software and producing user‑friendly guides.
- Perform software rebuilds of laptops and PCs where needed.
- Assist with Microsoft Office 365, internet and related activities, including development and maintenance.
- Support staff and students in the use of technology across all sites, including classroom support.
- Provide ICT support and training to “feeder” primary schools.
- Perform health checks across servers and end‑user devices, highlighting damages and failures.
- Familiarize with and promote safeguarding requirements, demonstrating adherence to DFE Guidance “Keeping Children Safe in Education” and the school’s Child Protection policy.
- Comply with all school and Trust policies and procedures, especially conduct, child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality, data protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person.
Support Technician Duties
- Install and configure relevant software and hardware such as mobile apps, printers, projectors, scanners, and cameras.
- Address IT issues by prioritising in response to customer service level agreements.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly health checks on ICT equipment.
- Administer security access requirements and permissions, escalating as necessary.
- Support roll‑out of upgrades or new systems or applications.

- Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard.
- Training for all pathways of your IT career (support, network, digital communications).
- Specialising in a portfolio of evidence for the Support Technician pathway.
- e‑learning materials.
- Bi‑weekly virtual classroom training on all apprenticeship options.
- Access to virtual labs to develop technical competency.
- Monthly work‑based coach visits and competency checks.
- 9 am – 5 pm support desk for technical support.
- Personal learning, thinking skills and key skills development.
- Option for vendor and technical certificates such as CompTIA.
You will also have the opportunity to network with other apprentices and access an online portal providing technical guidance and helpdesk links.

Working week
Full time – 37 hours per week. Monday to Thursday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am to 3:30 pm with a 30‑minute lunch.
Salary
ÂŁ24,796 per annum. An allowance of ÂŁ0.52 per mile is provided towards travel expenses.
Desired qualifications
Minimum of GCSE standard English and Maths grade 4 (or above), or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths.
Expected duration
15 months plus 4 months for the End Point Assessment.
