We have an exciting opportunity for a Telemedicine Optometrist to join our expanding team at Primary Eyecare Services!

About Us: Primary Eyecare Services (PES) is an established provider of high-quality extended eye care services, utilising a large network of optical practice subcontractors across England. PES currently holds and manages contracts on behalf of the primary eye care network, spanning ~70 NHS commissioners and delivering over 380,000 episodes of patient care each year, with a total annual turnover of ~£25+ million. PES is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee.

Role Overview: Primary Eyecare Services is seeking highly skilled, experienced, and clinically focused optometrists to join its central telemedicine clinical team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced healthcare environment, where high-pressure situations require strong clinical expertise, sound decision-making, and the ability to provide exceptional patient care.

As a key member of the clinical team, the telemedicine optometrist will be responsible for delivering high-quality care, ensuring accurate assessment and management of a wide range of ocular conditions. The role requires a commitment to maintaining clinical excellence, adhering to best practices, and working collaboratively to enhance patient outcomes.

Salary: The FTE salary is £55,000. As this is a part-time role, the salary will be pro-rated accordingly.

Location: The role will be predominantly home-based, but there is a requirement to attend the PES Head Office in Manchester, M4 6LN, on occasion. You will also be required to attend the PES Head Office for two full days (9am-5pm) for your induction.

General Responsibilities:

  • Telemedicine Consultations: Conduct prompt and accurate patient assessments via remote consultation, managing a diverse range of conditions presenting via the Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES).
  • Clinic Management: Efficiently oversee your assigned clinic, employing superior time management skills to maintain high standards of patient care under pressure.
  • Effective Communication: Articulate clinical decisions and management advice clearly and confidently to patients, fellow clinicians, and team members.
  • Clinical Support: Provide timely and knowledgeable clinical support to the service administrative team as situations arise.
  • Service Improvement: Collaborate proactively with operations and clinical leads to identify and implement enhancements in service delivery.

Shift Pattern: This is a part-time vacancy with the hours for these shifts being set from 9am to 5:30pm. Due to business needs, we are unable to be flexible with these days: Friday and Saturday.

What We're Looking For:

Qualifications:

  • GOC Registered Optometrist (Essential)
  • Completion of WOPEC MECS level 1&2 (Desirable)
  • Additional qualifications registered with the GOC e.g. Independent Prescribing, Professional Certificate in Medical Retina or Professional Certificate in Glaucoma (Desirable)
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance via the AOP (Essential)

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years as a qualified optometrist (Essential)
  • Evidence of CPD in accordance with GOC regulations (Essential)
  • Experience in delivering urgent eye care services e.g. CUES/MECS (Essential)
  • A range of experience within the optometric sector e.g. via various working environments or additional roles (Desirable)
