We have an exciting role as a Healthcare Assistant (24 hours) this role is for PCS group practices at either North Darnall or Heeley Green Surgery.

The successful candidate will be working as a vital part of the practice team, the healthcare assistant will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

The role involves supporting a range of clinical services, including phlebotomy, health checks, wound care, vaccinations, and monitoring patients health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will help maintain high standards of patient care by supporting clinicians, preparing clinical areas, and ensuring services run safely and effectively.

Main duties of the job

  • Supporting the clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care and prescribed care programmes.
  • Undertaking clinical tasks including phlebotomy, health checks, wound care, vaccinations, and routine monitoring.
  • Carrying out basic health assessments, including blood pressure, height, weight, and pre-diabetic checks.
  • Processing and managing laboratory samples in line with practice procedures.
  • Preparing, maintaining, and cleaning clinical rooms, equipment, and treatment areas.
  • Managing medical consumable stock levels and supporting ordering processes.
  • Assisting with patient care activities, including chaperoning and delegated clinical tasks.
  • Promoting health and wellbeing awareness and supporting patient education.
  • Identifying and escalating clinical or safeguarding concerns appropriately.
  • Providing occasional support with home visits where required.

  • Job responsibilities
  • Working strictly in accordance with specific Hub protocols in the delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
  • Support the clinical team in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care as part of the practice multidisciplinary team.
  • Undertake a range of Healthcare Assistant duties including phlebotomy, health checks, nursing observations, measurements, and long-term condition reviews.
  • Provide clinical support including wound care, dressing changes, removal of sutures/clips, urinalysis, ear irrigation, and other delegated clinical tasks.
  • Support vaccination programmes, health promotion activities, and provide advice to patients on improving health and wellbeing, including smoking cessation support.
  • Process laboratory samples, complete clinical administration tasks, and assist with the collection and collation of patient data.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical rooms, equipment, and supplies, ensuring safe standards of care and effective stock management.
  • Work independently and use initiative while supporting clinicians, undertaking audits where required, and managing delegated patient care activities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients from a range of cultures and backgrounds, providing compassionate care and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Identify and escalate clinical or safeguarding concerns appropriately and contribute to maintaining patient safety.
  • Undertake occasional home visits where required, holding a clean UK driving licence and working flexibly to meet service needs.

Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant
  • Taking bloods
  • Experience in a General Practice
  • Experience of undertaking long term condition reviews.
  • Experience of undertaking audits

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care -or equivalent experience.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
