An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated GP to join North Cumbria Primary Care working in a salaried role on either a full time or part time basis in the Workington GP Practice. We work in a total triage model serving our 33,000 patients, supported by our home visiting team, nursing team, frail and elderly assessment team, and personalised care team. We are developing new ways of working to streamline our admin work and ensure responsibilities are shared out equitably.

You will work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population. The role will provide medical services for the practice population to a high standard, including surgery consultations, clinical administration, and specific clinical roles of duty doctor, triage doctor, and home visiting doctor. You will be supported by our excellent clinical and administrative team who are very friendly, hard working, competent, experienced and approachable and would make any new GP feel very welcome. We offer a certificate of sponsorship (Tier 2).

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake a variety of clinical sessions including face to face and telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients in their own homes, work as part of our clinical triage team and duty doctor.
  • Provide high quality medical services to patients registered with the practice.
  • Provide a full range of services in line with the requirements of the GMS contract and Enhanced Services contract.
  • Be expected to undertake all the duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in Primary Care.
  • Assessing the health needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, making autonomous, professional decisions in relation to presenting problems.
  • Practice evidence-based medicine.
  • Prescribe and administer medicines in accordance with the medicines management procedures.
  • Complete referrals where appropriate including any suggested diagnostic testing and report on results to patients as required.
  • Provide clinical support for colleagues including assisting with the mentoring of training colleagues, respond to queries from nursing team.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Undertake relevant administrative and non-clinical duties needed for the delivery of medical services.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of practice standard operating procedures.

North Cumbria Primary Care Limited is an innovative not for profit social enterprise, established to create a network of practices which sustains and supports the development of general practices across the local area. In Workington we are a one Practice PCN, meaning we are able to work effectively to address the needs of our local population. We are a cohesive practice with a friendly working environment. We work clinically across three sites, closely situated in the middle of Workington. This includes our recently extended site of Orchard House with its 10 new state-of-the-art clinical rooms, our chronic disease hub site, and ANP-led Primary Care Centre.

We operate a total triage system to provide better access for our patients and are committed to continuous improvement. We also have an ANP-led minor injuries service. Our home visiting service is well established, working closely with our frail and elderly assessment team, personalised care team, and our partners across the healthcare system. As a training practice we support Trainee ACPs, Student Nurses, and GP Trainees and would be very keen to support an incoming GP to develop as a GP trainer.

The practice serves a population of over 33,000 patients and have a committed clinical and non-clinical team of: GPs, Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioners, Paramedic, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Frailty Team, Personalised Care Team, Reception and Admin Team.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will provide medical services for the practice population to a high standard, including surgery consultations, clinical administration, and specific clinical roles of duty doctor, triage doctor, and home visiting doctor. The postholder will work as an autonomous practitioner, ensuring that quality of care and patient continuity are at the heart of everything they do, and that any records keeping is accurate. The postholder will work within the wider clinical team, providing support to and being supported by other team members. The post holder will comply with the requirements of the practices General Medical Services contract, enhanced services contracts, and quality schemes to maximise patient care and income.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
