We are looking for part or full time salaried GPs to join our practice in West Cumbria. We are seeking professional and motivated GPs who are committed to delivering high quality, patient‑centred care.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Carry out surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referral or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease‑management protocols, develop care plans for health.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

Health & Safety

  • Implement and lead a full range of promotion and management of health & safety and infection control as defined in the practice health & safety policy, manual and infection control policy.
  • Use personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
  • Maintain awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness, regulatory/contractual, professional requirements and good practice guidelines.
  • Advise on the correct and safe management of specimen processes including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements.
  • Ensure correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by staff and patients where appropriate.
  • Manage all incidents of accidental exposure.
  • Implement infection control procedures in both routine and extraordinary circumstances.
  • Monitor hand hygiene standards for self and others.
  • Observe current working practices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities, identifying weaknesses or training needs.
  • Identify risks involved in work activities and undertake such activities in a way that manages those risks.
  • Update knowledge and skills through effective training and initiate and manage the training of others across infection control.
  • Maintain practice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuring proper use of hand‑cleansing facilities, wipes et al.
  • Ensure safe management of sharps use, storage and disposal.
  • Maintain own clean working environment.
  • Actively identify, report and correct health and safety hazards immediately when recognised.
  • Maintain general standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation with responsible managers.
  • Undertake periodic infection control training at least twice annually.
  • Handle waste and instrument management including segregation and container use.
  • Maintain sterile environments.

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and inclusion on the NHS England Performers List; with evidence of up‑to‑date clinical practice and commitment to high standards of patient care.
